I'll be racing soon enough. And if I can it will be without this system.

Smutty, I see a major dent in the foam on Jake's (and other's helmet). It seems significant enough that it could change the amount of energy that the foam can absorb. Also, the damned thing doesn't work well, and is just a stupid design IMO. Not the mention OVER PRICED for what it is. I really think they should re-evaluate.

I will have a picture up tonight. There is a deep groove wearing into the foam.

Was the eject system used in your crash to remove the helmet?

Negative, I was able to get up and take the helmet off myself.

Just really don't see this device having any significant effect on the EPS liners ability to absorb an impact. I looked at my helmet again and noticed that the liner has indents, grooves and even holes drilled right from the factory. I would think a hole straight through the EPS liner would compromise impact absorption much more than a small, surface level indent.

Again, I hope Eject will NOT be required next year... but mainly because it's kind of a pain in the ass and it's an added expense for new racers. Really don't see it as a safety concern at all.

not to sound like a dick...but if you guys are bitching about spending an extra $60 for racing, then you shouldnt be racing.

i get the helmet compromise complaints, but i dont get the $60 expense complaints.

go compete in any any other region (doesnt require the eject system) for CCS races and spend $80 for the first race, $65 for additional.

I don't think anyone is complaining about the money. I hope that's not what they've been getting out of the recent posts anyways. The issue at hand is whether or not the Eject system should still be mandatory based on the recent findings on it's possible negative ramifications.

I'm intersted in seeing these pictures....honestly I can't find a mark on either of my helmets, except where the adhesive pulled off some paint. No structural damage...

Notice the stress cracking in the vicinity of the groove. And yes, it's a groove. I was not able to get a picture that could give an accurate feel of the depth but if i had to guess, it's just under 1/16 of an inch. Keep in mind, I bought this helmet brank spanky new on 9/6/2012 from MotoMarket.

That's because it WAS a depression in the foam. I looked at it very closely.

If anyone's bitching about the cost, it's not simply about having to spend money - it's about having to spend money for something that (1) may compromise the very item into which it's being installed, (2) may not even be used by ambulance personnel when removing the helmet, and/or (3) may not work properly when actually being used by said personnel. All of those things negate any the value of any price paid for the system.

right, but they could just not require the Eject system and jack up entry fees by $5/race.
that would cost more than your $60 eject system...even if it is useless.
i would prefer not to buy it either. but i bought it last winter, considering it an added cost to allow me to race in the North East region.

smutty, the ROC doesnt count you dummy. i'm just comparing entry fees for regualr season at any other region.

The cost is not an issue. I've bought it, fine. But it certainly seems that it could be compromising our helmets' integrity. That is a problem. I don't care that I've spent the money. I do care that having it in there might cause me more harm than good and I don't have a choice.

    Re: Eject System

I wanted to add to the information that's around on the eject system. My helmet, and dome, experienced a pretty good whack in Round 6 that resulted in a minor concussion. Here is the damaged, outside, portion of the helmet.

It happened to hit right where the eject system tube was routed.

There is a residue on the eject system tubing from the core of the helmet.

It could be argued that the damage to the foam was a result of the actual impact, not the exposure to the tubing. However, the tubing is fairly flexible and I wouldn't really expect it to be sturdy enough to cause the deformation to the foam. In addition, the sticky residue indicates there was some reaction between the tubing and the core. Clearly there is some damage to the core from the impact in that area as well.

So, would I have had a concussion if the eject system wasn't installed, potentially deteriorating the core? Meh, probably. But, I'd rather have the full capability of my helmet. Additionally, the eject system didn't work when asked in my case. I'm not vehemently against the system. I think it's a good concept, but it needs more research and development before I'd choose to put it in my helmet.

Any idea where the leak is that kept it from inflating? I'm sure Eject would love to know about it.
