    Re: Helmet removal system?

    My concerns are two-fold.

    1. There is a slight possibility of a skull fracture and brain swell. This device could possibly cause an issue there. Not very likely, but possible.

    2. Someone getting blase about it, thinking it is a failsafe device for helmet removal, which it isn't. It is an AID, like Pete said.

As for putting too much pressure on the skull, if your skull is broken/cracked through your helmet, you have worse things to worry about than a plastic bag assisting to get your helmet off.
Iirc this helmet removal system has been adopted in more then a few motorsports.

it just makes me nervous, as it may modify the design of the helmet.
if Arai wants to implement a removal system, then it should come stock in their helmets

Jim, sticking a fuckin deflated balloon on the top of your head isn't going to make your helmet any less safe.

if I recall some of the instructions show removing some of the padding to install the bladder. that is something I will not be doing.

that's my point i'm making james.
Arai has designed the structure of their helmet for specific reasons. if they designed it to fit a balloon in there, then they probably would have included it.

I'm not opposed to buying this as long as it can be installed without modification to the padding and safety features already in the helmet.

The one I saw has you remove and then replace the padding.

ya, it's been discussed a lot over the last 2 days on here.
most of us are waiting for an official notification or 2012 rulebook before making any purchases.

    Re: Eject System

Ill have to take a good look at how to install these on the Arai helmets. I think it may be difficult without modification to the padding. If it cant be done without modifying the padding Im going to be sad I sent LRRS a check for my license this season.

Hey JumpStart...they mentioned this system at a few riders meetings in 2011. You'd know this if you hadn't grenaded your motor halfway through the season trying to beat me.

    Re: Eject System

They started talking about the possibility of making this a required item about a year ago or more.

And we're still waiting for confirmation on whether or not it's actually going to be a required item for 2012.

I remember Eric mentioning it on my first race weekend in 2010. It's no surprise at all.

Your best bet is to wait for CCS or NHMS to make the announcement.

Keep in mind that the guy who runs the lrrsracing site also runs RSC. That said you can rest assured that there is absolutely no conflict of interest.

Welp, looks like I wont bother renewing my license. Was hoping to make a weekend, but with the transponder charge, and possibly this, just not worth it.

    Re: Eject System

Wanna play gotta pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay, pay and the cycle continues. I understand that safety is a concern. How about making some other safety improvements to the facility???? With the complaint of small grids and low attendance added costs to race certainly isn't going to help any of that. If it's what they require it is what I will do. Doesn't mean I need to agree with it.

    Re: Helmet removal system?

I saw this demonstrated somewhere last year...

    http://stores.sportbiketrackgear.com/Detail.bok?no=6075

Cheaper and simpler. No special equipment required.

Or the fact you can pull the little red tab on the side of my helmet and the padding falls outs. I dont know what Shoei has but the Arai system is pretty easy to use.

This in no way effects me, nor is it confirmed, but I'm very angry and I'm going to make some rash decisions!

I was quite skeptical seeing the announcement on the "unofficial pirate home of LRRS racing" as well, but Graham has confirmed that this will come into play in 2012(with possibly a few weekends grace period to notify people), so I'm now under the impression it's official.

Yes, it will likely become official... which I'm fine with. I just think it's a riot how people freak the eff out before official word even comes out.
