New England Dragway Street Night 8-27

    anybody here there last night?

I was, there was probably 15 or so bikes running including me on my ZX12R. First timer for me, had launch problems but plenty of fun. Some fast 9 second bikes but I was only down to about 11.4.

Definitely going to try and hit another Wednesday before the seasons over.

"running either 10.99 or quicker or 120 MPH or faster" - requires a kill switch
"permanent style competition number plate" - they have black license plate backs that you can zip tie to the bike

    cool... thanks guys.
so if I've never done this before how likely is it that I'll be under 11 or over 120 on a stock 07 GSXR1000?

probably depends on your skillz....go up and find out..the worst they can do is let you run once then not let you back on

i've seen some basic make-shift kill switches though...tiny screw on the on/off switch with fishing line attached to your jacket....they dont require you to buy a fancy one

Re: New England Dragway Street Night 8-27

the 120mph is 'easy', the 1/4 time is a lot harder, demands a good launch and run the entire length. The 'professional' time for my ZX12R was listed at 10.2, so I'd have to be very good to get into the 10s.

I went up last year with the 12r and got a 9.14, I didn't have safety mods so they kindly asked me not to come back until I met the requirements.

you would have to go on a "test session" night to run slicks. you can run a race bike but you need a taillight once it gets dark. ive run the racebike there on DOTs but needed a taillight when the sun went down
i've seen some basic make-shift kill switches though...tiny screw on the on/off switch with fishing line attached to your jacket....they dont require you to buy a fancy one
those dont pass anymore. you need the real deal which i believe are about $100
    cool... thanks guys.

pretty good actually. my g/f has a 01 GSXR 750, she made about 6 passes before she broke 120. didnt do any 10's. just watch your speedo the first few runs to get an idea. its the trap speed at the finish so if you know how much your speedo is off you can guess. my SV would do about 118 at the line although the speedo said 130
so what's the deal with this... all bikes need a kill switch?
a TETHERED kill switch if you go 120+ or in the 10s at all.

Re: New England Dragway Street Night 8-27

I'm interested. I think there has been an NESR trip up there before... 2 years ago maybe? I suppose I could install a kill switch/tether in short order. I'd rather not worry about it and just go... Anybody else down? Local sources for kill switches? can I expect 5 or so runs out of a night? (sorry, I'm all questions here)

You're gonna be in the 135mph range at least no matter what your 1/4 time is (within reason). I did something stupid like a 12.1 on my R7 and still was in the 130mph range. I'm guessing you'll end up in the 140 range before the night is over?
I used to go up there quite a bit back in the late 90s (makes me feel old saying that?) on my 98 R1. Best ever on that bike was 10.6@137mph, my friend Todd did a 10.4 on my bike and a 10.0 on his 98 R1. Your 60' time is what you'll want to work on, the rest is just staying on the gas and shifting properly.

Up until a couple years ago, I used to just drill a small hole in the kill switch and thread a peice of fishing line through it with a safety pin on the other end, just clipped the safety pin the zipper of your jacket and you were good to go. Sounds like that has changed though?

You'll also need a chain guard...which is an issue for the Motarders.

I'd be down for something, I'd rather make a day of it and do a full day on a weekend vs a Wednesday or friday night for travel reasons

My bud runs the Raven R1 up there in the 9s. Mostly stock, aftermarket exhaust, Cluctch (cuz the burned out the stocker), and straps. Thats IT!

When it comes to bikes its 80% skill and 20% bike. to get into the low 10s high 9s.

I got in 4 runs but didn't get there until about 7:00. Gates open at 5, so if you are early you could easily get in 5 to 7 runs.

I'm looking at what they sell at marine stores. Should be easy to mount a boat/pwc kill switch.

I've rigged up my kill switch and will be at New England Dragway this Wednesday 9-10-08. Going to try and leave work early so I can be there just after 5pm.

Anyone else going to come and give it a try?
