    False neutrals

Why in God's name am I still getting a false fucking neutrals at least once per race weekend when downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear no matter HOW I perform the downshift and ONLY when I'm going into the bowl, not 3 or 11?

It's cost me multiple points this season and I'm tired of sticking my leg out on entry so I don't get asspacked.

It's really starting to piss me off.

Another new shift star & detent spring on order... but my gut tells me something else is going on. Just fucking strange it almost EXCLUSIVELY happens going into 6 (and very, VERY rarely 3).

Think I've hit a false neutral maybe once at other tracks. It's got to be something with my technique when entering 6 but I'll be fucking damned if I can't figure out how I'm doing my downshift differently there than anywhere else on this planet.

Sam and Sav are giving you roofies to gain an advantage.

    That's my guess.

I'm with Dove. It certainly has to do with the different load on the gearbox going down the hill. Undercutting the gears is the best solution. Everything else is really just a bandaid.

    Re: False neutrals

FWIW, I have had trouble with false neutrals in my SV in the past as well. Street mainly though and not as much on the track...

What do you mean with "under cutting the gears"?

THanks Chipper. It's a motor out, disassemble the gearbox job. A machinist will chamfer the engagement dogs so that they pull each other together instead of slip apart when you attempt to change gears.

Once you go undercut, you never go back.

How often do you change the oil?

Changing oil more frequently and treating the shifter like a rented hooker are the only things working for me. But then my pace is way mo' slower than yours. So slow I don't even downshift there.

    Re: False neutrals

Not downshifting for the bowl is a mistake on a lightweight bike. You are asking the bike to pull a 70MPH spread in a single gear between 3, 5 and 8. That MIGHT be ok on a literbike, but you are simply giving away time on an SV IMO.

    Re: False neutrals

I don't know the particulars of the SV gearbox though. I would assume it's similar to an EX, and undercutting those was mint. My real racebike, of course, had undercut dogs from the factory.
