There was a discussion out there regarding the eligibility of Novices for this event. Since it does happen in the Novice class, they want to avoid having riders doing 1:40's out there with riders doing 1:12's. As I thought about it, I might have to agree. I've done pretty extensive studies of GPS data and you can take the lap time gap, double it and that is a ballpark for what the max differential in MPH might be. So, even if we use conservative numbers, 1:15 versus 1:35 is a 40mph differential in some places. That's a lot and begins to create potential safety issues.

I'd have to agree, plus, I don't think an endurance race is the first time to introduce Novice Riders to the speed and proximity of expert level passes. The first time I experienced it I almost lost the bike.
