But seriously, Markus, whether even if you're smart about it, racing isn't exactly "low risk". I know you're kiddin around & all about sneakin out to the races & participating, but there's plenty of time & reason to either wait or include your parents in your desire for racing.
Nothing's stopping you from participating all together though... still welcome to come to the races to learn & spectate.![]()

lol, the way i wrote it was mostly a joke.
seriously. both my parents are really busy all the time. I have a jeep grand cherokee with a tow hitch and a trailor. so i figured i'd just be goin out to the races by myself. no big deal, its right down the highway, take one left at littleton and get on the I-93. but now i see this and it complicates things slightly.
I'm going to wait until I'm 21 to start drinking legally.
I'm also going to include my parents in my racing if I'm under 18!

That really sucks. i was on the phone with my friend who's son got his racing license at LRRS last year. he just turned 14 and he's pulling better lap times than almost any other novice up there, even has a ton of national AMA dirtrack championships, but now he can't race the brand new R6 that his father got set up for him.
BOO CCS. Pony up the extra insurance premium and let these kids race.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
damn. thats one lucky kid. If/when i have kids i'm gonna try and give them a start at racing like that. till then i'm on my own lol.
Think of all the great PR that LRRS would get when the "14 Year Old Dies When Father Lets Him Race Motorcycle" headline hits newstands.Originally posted by hessogood

That might be an argument if it wasn't legal for them to race everywhere else in the world, as well as other american race associations such as WERA for instance. Leave it to america to worry about 'what people will say'. Do you think it matters if someone is 14, 18, or 50 when they die on the track? Besides kids like him have been racing since they were 5 years old. Don't you think there has been the same dangers in all the other lines of racing in those 9 years? The kid had to go to canada to start dirt tracking because of this rediculousness. How's he supposed to become a champion when he has to sit on his ass for 2 years. He already had to wait till his 14th birthday, now they're going to change the rules back so he can't race anymore. It's rediculous.Originally posted by HBerry

This idea of protecting ourselves from ourselves has to stop
Yah... how the f*ck are we ever going to have an American Moto GP champion if we act like that.Originally posted by HBerry

We're all going to die anyway, he could just go bang his head skateboarding or bicycling instead.
Right and when he dies skateboarding or riding a dirtbike in his backyard, it's not an organizations fault, it's the parents.
People care a lot more when a kid gets killed doing something like this than a 50 year old. Once a kid gets killed they will have to stop racing until the state does a full investigation of the safety of the race track and what needs to be done to prevent children from being killed at these things. It is the correct choice for a company to make.

i'm not in favor of librals forcing my kid to live in the womb till he reaches a numerical age. We're talking about one association in one country. If this is so reasonable justified, why aren't the rest of the organizations and countries blacking out anyone under 18. After all what's the accountability difference from 14 to 16? I think Shane is only 15 as well, he was on his way to top 5 expert and easily a factory ride. Sorry Shane librals say you and your family have no say in the choices that form your life.
Maybe we could have these kids spend their formidabale years doing drugs and drinking all weekend with the rest of their friends instead of working on drive, dedication and commitment.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
So why doesn't he go to another organization then? It's a business decision that a company makes that its not worth the risk to allow the 4 or 5 under 16 kids that would want to race to do so.

Because CCS sanctoinis LRRS a few hours from his house. Racing WERA requires driving 12 plus hours in all different directions each weekend to find a track. How's he supposed to do that when he has to attend classes monday through friday? It's a rediculous 'business' decision. There's booze at the track at night, so maybe LRRS should up the infield age limit to 21, sorry, guess that means you can't come there to hang out or to race. It's a business decision, in case something happens to you. We wouldn't want anyone to have accountability or god forbid deal with the issue.Originally posted by HBerry

It's illegal for me to drink if I'm under 21, therefore it's not LRRS' responsibility to watch over me. Also they don't allow beer to be consumed while races are taking place so there is no need to worry about me drunk racing. I'll be 21 for most of this race season anyways, so if they want to do that, that's fine with me.

You're missing the point of that argument. LRRS is not responsible for a racer under 18 as both him and his gaurdian sign wavers. Their' legal accountability would be just as much as for you drinking there walking to the bathroom falling and getting hurt. Or say crashing your pitbike into Chad's big belly at ludicrous speed while boozed up.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I know, I missed the point on purpose.
You are missing the media impact this would have on LRRS as a whole. The person who died this year at the track didn't even make a front page story, it was one little article a few pages into the papers. However if a 14 year old were to die at a track it would be a front page full page artilce about what happened and what they did wrong. Then there would be a continuing story about the lack of track safety and the need for more safety and people would come and protest at all the races and call everyone children killers.
Then again, maybe it's a good thing, and NHIS will make the track safer for us after a 14 year old gets seriously injured or killed at the track.

It's no different then a ski area.
I doubt it would have any impact. LRRS/CCS could care less about what the average person thinks right?
They get all their money & support from the motorcycle racers since there is next to 0 spectators. A racer buying the farm, even a 14 year old is not going to scare the whole grid away.
If the ski areas can protect themselves with waivers and allow people to do inverted tricks in the terrain park I fail to see how they can't let a 14 year old race motorcycles.
This is not like baseball or something where the teams have to fill the stands and maintain the TV audiences. The sport is completely self-sufficient with just racers & sponsors and no one else giving 2 shits.
People will start giving two shits though, you don't understand how big of a deal this will be made into if someone that young were to get killed or seriously injured. Ski areas have been doing it before motorcycle racing existed so its accepted now.
