The 2 biggest reasons I'm riding an EX right there. $15 crashes, and a season on a set of tires. I'd love to be on an R6 or something (used to think i'd want a 600RR but Jim sort of talked me out of that one) but just can't justify the expense of the tires and the crashing.

Here is a good one to consider. 05 GSXR600 http://www.nestreetriders.com/forum/...0-3-500-a.html
A guy I race with, its sprung for about 225lbs. He is a big guy and it does well.
He is out of racing for a while, talk to him about his tire warmers, stands leathers and stuff. he'll do you a deal I am sure

good luck and see you out there..oh and Penguin teaches you the rules, not so much "how to race".

Starting on a big bike(600 I4 and up) is probably a BAD idea.

    Re: Getting Into Racing

Here's last year's USCRA Formula EX class winner for sale.

I'm having wrist problems and unable to race right now and I will be traveling to Europe later this season so I've decided to put my EX up for sale. It's an "88" with 16" wheels but I have the rare and sticky Avons on it. It runs well and has a spare motor and lots of spare parts. I'm asking $900 OBO and for someone looking to get a start in racing it would suit them just fine for at least a season. I have posted this along with my BMW side car (now there's something you guys should try!) on the USCRA site as well. Let me know if there is any interest. You can contact me on the group, at my other email sbrooksracing@... or call 508-294-2329. Thanks Scott #142

If you have a girlfriend - beat her to the punch and break up with her. If you're married - get a decent divorce lawyer, but tell them you're racing, so you don't have much money.

Haha no she wants to come and watch and take pics and socialize with the other gfs/wives that hang around the track. She's too good to me half the time.

Not much interest because of the time of year I posted it, I think. These guys do have good advice though, starting on one of their suggested bikes is cheaper and may give you a better learning opportunity. Not to say it can't be done on a 600 though, I'm sure many guys started on an I4 and don't regret it. Gsxr's are some of the cheapest bikes to crash just because there are so many parts for them out there.

600's are fun but prolly not what you're looking for based on what I've read so far.

Ya just wait until you make her cry when you crash. Or better yet you dont come back but the bike does in a million pieces and PK makes her cry as he runs off to pull you out of the infield care center. Dont ask me how I know what its like

Its not cheap to do but its some of the most fun youll ever have. As bergs said 600 are fun. I love riding mine but it costs me a good deal. About 400 a week in tires and then whatever I break off it in my crashes.

    Shrug...

$100 for a day of practice.
$70 for a race which gets you another 4 sessions of practice.
$50 for a used set of takeoffs which will be good for quite a few practices & races.
$50 for food/drink for the weekend
    $15 in 93 octane gas
$15 in diesel to get there
    FREE camping
    FREE showers
    FREE electricity

$200 for the weekend with an additional $50 amortized out across multiple weekends

Yea the guys aren't really kidding about the gf issues lol.... almost all of us deal with it, nobody is immune.

Apparently paying for her pit pass doesn't count as "spending time together" lol

Yeah she already gets a little annoyed with the amount of time I spend with the street bike. Not completely sure yet but I spoke with her last night and we are planning our wedding for early next year. Probably look to get into racing next spring after doing a couple more track days this year. Maybe try to grab/build up a bike over the winter as something to do.

I think it's going to be slightly challenging to try and get into it mid-season, with my new job, and trying to plan a wedding. I think I'll probably come up for some corner-working and meeting more people next race weekend.
