Our whole schedule used to be the Monday after an LRRS event. With the demise of the "National Warmup" in 2006 the USCRA eventually got the weekend before the Classic for their FIM sanctioned two day event. We always do Labor Day. (Nobody else wants to and the price is right.) Tommy tried moving the LRRS event and found that he gets more entries if he schedules LRRS the weekend after Labor Day. So the May event is the only convenient one.

I agree that it would be difficult to find time for another race within LRRS, which already has a packed schedule. The speed differences are so great between the grom and every other LRRS bike that it would without a doubt have to be run on its own. I also get that the grom may fit perfectly into one of the USCRA's classes, but I just don't see the USCRA clientele either owning groms or having any interest in racing groms. And I don't see LRRS owners either staying at the track for Monday or coming down additional weekends for 1 race.
I would still like to see something done at Canaan. Already seems to be races going on there for 300s and Motards.....why not make a 300/motard/grom/mini racing series?

I am somewhat confused that you admit that existing racers-already invested in racing at a venue and comfortable with that environment-can't be bothered to stay for USCRA events. Yet you seem to think they'd jump at the chance to drive to Canaan-which is a startup facility with fewer amenities, a foreign track to most, and something of an unknown commodity-on an entirely different weekend.
You are closer to Canaan. I suspect that isn't true for most LRRS types.
I just don't see it happening.
And by the way, there is a pretty healthy mini racing series just across the border in Maine with Boxshop/NEMM.
Unless I'm mistaken, the grom slots into at least one class there. (Josh to the beige courtesy phone for a fact check please)
Anyway. I'm still with Kurtz. Cute toy. But if you wanna race minis, get an XR100 or CRF150R.

I could see the groms running the bandelero course where we do the pit bike race in turns 1 and 2. Even more fun, use NASCAR turns 3, 4, and the section of the road course down that end 11, 12 and 12a. It would have to be after LRRS ends for the day and I'm not sure what the logistics are for something like that.
I ran mine at NYST, and it was fun for about a lap. Short course is absolutely the way to go.

First, it already happened with USCRA and only 1 racer showed up. So you might be confused by my reasoning, but it's fact, so you can't really argue it. Second, we are talking Monday, which lots of people work. They are already taking off Friday, maybe Thursday, and probably can't add Monday into the mix for 1 race...which is my third point, 1 race. What i'm talking about would be a weekend event, where the grom could have several races. Lastly, I admit i've never been to a USCRA event, but my feeling is that Grom racers and vintage racers don't really mix that well?
You're right, i'm closer to Canaan, but most people probably aren't, that is an issue.
And yes you're right, Boxshop is certainly a viable alternative.
And yes, the Grom probably is more of a cute toy than a race machine, but a lot of people own them and a lot of non-racers own them. I see it as a good opportunity to grow the sport. I have a co-worker that owns a grom and could probably be convinced to race it, but I don't see him going out and buying an XR100 and setting it up to race.

Eric, let me rephrase - if there were enough interest he would create a class for the Grom. Not run it with 300's as that would be a mess. But I suspect there will not be enough interest to make it work.
I also agree - head to Box Shop in Maine - Aaron does a great job and it is a fun little track

I also agree with me. USCRA threw a Grom party...and (almost) no one actually showed up. I'd be surprised if the result changed a ton no matter the day, etc. Once again...maybe someone will prove me wrong...
Fuck. No. That would extend the day for corner workers, series officials, and more importantly EMS staff.

The very few outdoor kart tracks in the region for the most part absolutely hate bikes. They feel they do too much damage to the pavement between gas spills and pegs and other hard bits dragging. The two exceptions to that were Sugar Hill and 106 Race Park, both in NH. Neither is running bike events at the moment due to lack of interest but I'm sure an organized group could get track time if they asked. Sugar Hill was mostly just an oval, 106 Race Park has enough infield pavement that you can rig a few different road courses.
MIK used to run bikes but their new insurer put the kibosh on that happening again in the future.
For those that want to play, Grom's slot right into GP80 and Aircooled at Boxshop.
I can confirm a Grom is fun at NHMS and would be fun as hell to have as a series or race class. 1:52 lap times is what I was turning on the full road course. I would recommend the Turn 1/2 or 3/4 scenarios though to keep it more interesting, like a kart track.
Of course, this is coming from the guy who took the same Grom up the Mt. Washington Auto Road last weekend and had an absolute blast....
Club Motorsports in Tamworth, NH has build an awesome kart/mini track next to the incredible road course... when I spoke to one of the organizers there he was very positive and excited when I asked him about mini racing on the kart course!

Actually, karts generally don't rip up the pavement. They're built so short of catastrophe hard parts don't touch the deck.
Those same concerns, hard parts dragging and gas spills played out at every single mini event held at 106 Race Park for example. Even without crashes, if you're pushing you're dragging pegs. If you do biff, axles and other spiky bits drag and dig. Thankfully despite the damage they were willing to make repairs and continue to let us play. I'd bet you can still make out the normal layout for 128 Cycle's pit bike track out back just by looking at the scrapes left in the pavement.
Motorace does have Grom racing tires in stock.

Cycles 128 was the first place I watched racing as a kid! YSRs and men in space suits zipping around the parking lot. Those memories are a big part of why I own a Grom, and why I always wanted a YSR!
Karts will do something different though. They can generate up to 4Gs of pressure on corners, which, as some of you have seem on the entrance of turn 3 at NHMS with the cars braking, can make the pavement move making a series of "waves" as it gets pushed.
It is weird though, because the F1 outdoor track as nice of a facility as it is has such a shitty track, a lot of bumps. Karts dont have suspension, so when i rode my shifter there a while ago, it was like i went offroading
