Grom Racing! May 23rd with the USCRA

People asked for it, it's going to happen. Groms will race as part of Formula Flyweight at the May 23rd opening round of the USCRA 2016 series. If all goes well, they'll continue to be allowed at their other events. If you want to road race your Grom on a full size track, this is your opportunity.

There are a few provisos though, as always. Ripped straight from Facebook with some minor tweaks:

    1) You're going to need AMA memberships as that's who they do their insurance through, no way around this.

If you have a valid LRRS license you won't need to buy a USCRA license for this first event, but would after if they opt to continue things. If you do not have a valid race license from LRRS, USCRA or any other well known org, you're going to need to get one before signing up. Penguin is running a school on April 29th and May 20th at NHMS...

    2) Your machine needs to be setup to meet full USCRA tech regs as per Section 4.6 of their rulebook. This means your machine is going to have to be wired more so than you would for LRRS. All lights must be removed, taping over isn't sufficient. No grab bars, stands, racks, etc, it's all got to come off. I can't imagine any of you have put PMT slicks on but those are not allowed either, treaded tires only.

    3) Need a minimum of 5 people to commit. You'll be running with the 50cc machines in practice and for the race but treated as your own class to start, hence they want a min number of riders if they're going to add to the scorer's work load. (USCRA does scoring the old fashioned way, no transponders, just volunteers watching and note taking. AKA make sure your numbers are easy to read!)

    4) They didn't say this but I'm going to - Give more room to others on track than you would for LRRS. You've got a wider range of rider age, bike age, skill and capabilities than you see on an LRRS weekend. People's line choices are more varied, etc. Just be conscious of this before diving through the middle of a pack fighting off the red mist.

    5) Once they post the forms, which should be any day now, they'll be available here along with a daily schedule. You'll be signing up for the Formula Flyweight class. The 2016 USCRA rule book has been posted to FB here and will eventually be on the USCRA site as well. The 2015 rule book is here and the bits you need to be concerned with haven't changed. Section 4.6 lists all the tech requirements your bike must meet.

If you don't say anything and write 'grom' as the bike model, I won't call you out.

Disclaimer: I think Groms are overpriced scooters.

Josh, really cool of you to put in the legwork to make this happen. Between this and ULGP, you're carving out your legacy!

No problem, however I concur with Kurtz. The dollar/pound ratio isn't right on these things yet.
