I knew this would happen and The PTwins DEBATE.

I am looking to downgrade my bike collection, sell my 900ss and the Hawk racebike...
BUT there is a 996 on here that I want, a Hawk on Ebay that I want and now Greenwood goes and posts a CR125 that I want.

I want a Proddy twins/ LWSM Ducati and a Hawk Streetbike....and a dirt bike and my 800ss racebike...

    Frick, Frick, Frick!

How do I work this and still stay on good terms with my wife?

If your selling 2 Bikes (race hawk and street 900) You would be trading two bikes out for tw(that are mostly likey cheaper then the ones you sell) With the money you save, buy the Dirtbike. (and buy your wife a real nice present)

    You will be fine

That i what I was thinking... Get $4500 in sales

Buy a proddy twins from Hobbs + parts

Put my spare Hawk on the road (with about $1000 in parts) THEN SELL IT! $2000

Buy the ebay Hawk as a street bike!

and buy the 125... still have money left over to buy her a new Laptop.

Who wants my race Hawk for $2000 without the Ohlins but with a Progressive 415?

Gotta sell the 900ss for $2500 too...

    What's all this PTWN bullshit?

PTWN has always been about the rider. Men vs Men, competing on equal footing. What's all this about guys trying to "beat" the EX500?

That's not what this class is about. The class is about equity. Everyone buys an equal share of potential, racing EX500 against EX500 to see who is the better rider. It's not about who can buy the best bike. Stop fucking with our class.

I can't tell you if the 620 is a better bike than the EX. I can tell you that there are a lot of EX500 riders who enjoy competing against other EX500 riders with small budgets to see who is the better rider. You want to compete in PTWN? Buy an EX and show who's the better rider. Don't turn it into an arms race. That's not what this race class is about. Go buy a 600 if you want to play the "who can spend the most money on their racebike" game

Ducati 620 for $1000... I wouldn't say it has anything to do with money.

It's all legal, don't get your panties in a bunch Darrell... you just thought you were rid of me and your afraid I will be beating you AGAIN. At least this time my bike will be legal and you won't have that excuse.

Micky Curry races his Aprilia sumo in PTwins.... but he does the right thing & pits in after he takes the white flag.

Darrell's right... PTwins is an EX class. No one's gonna tell you ya CAN'T race it but you'll get a warmer welcome if you pull up to the grid on proper PTwins equipment.

If you're getting a Monster 620, be aware that you'll be grinding pipe/muffler worse than EX riders. That's the downside to the first of the 3 legal Ducs in PTwins. Ideal would be a Sport, dunno how a Multi would fare.

Really, $1000? Seems a bit under market value for a monster 620. But if you're saying we can all pick up 620s for a grand I'm all ears.

I realize that the 620s are legal for PTWNs based on the rules, and that others have run them. I just don't see what you really accomplish by turning our little class into an arms race. We race EX500s. They're cheap, easily tuned and maintained, and those of us who run PTWN enjoy going out there and competing against others on equal footings weekend after weekend.

We don't mess with the other classes. We run in LWSM without (excessive) bitching about the motards. All we ask for is one class where we racers can compete against each other without the constant debate of "that guy had motor on me" or "he's got more money to sink into suspension/tires/etc".

Like I said, you're more than welcome to compete with an EX. It's a fun class and I would encourage anyone who has the notion to do so. But if you really feel that the monster 620 has an advantage over our machines (and it may, I don't really know one way or the other) ask yourself why you're really doing this. Are you attempting to join our little weekly race and pit yourself against other riders in a class of skill? Or are you trying to exploit some technical rules loophole in order to gain some silly "advantage" by purchasing and outfitting a bike that would cost more than most of us are willing to spend on our little racing hobby?

There's no money to be won in PTWN racing (or any club racing to be found). The only satisfaction that I've found in racing was from beating other riders on equal footing, knowing that their machine was equal to mine. What would you really gain from trying to "tip the scales" in your favor, running a bike that you felt was superior to those that are commonly run? Certainly not respect. If it's respect your after, there are plenty of EX500s for sale; feel free to purchase one and run it in your race for the glory and admiration that comes from being a PTWN champion

Sports were only made 2002-2003. I am looking for one (Cheap)

For all the haters... I have my 800 Ducati, I basically want a bike that I can set up (ride height etc) exactly the same as my 800 just with less motor and run some more races.
Hopping from an EX to my Duc would be silly.

If they wanted Proddy twins to be "Shitty Mcbikefest" they should have named it that and not Proddy twins. If the bike is legal you should embrace it as a fellow competitor.

    Jeesh! EX Mafia I guess!

    See above post.

Yes I can get 620's for around $1000. Wrecked and in need of work but a good enough Proddy twin racer.

If your logic holds true then why do we run Honda's and Ducati's and Yamaha's... We should all be on the EXACT same bike.

We can't be, rules are in place to make it more equal. You didn't see me bitching about How slow my stock motored Hawk was compared to the other ULSB's or even LWSB. I was out to ride and learn and have fun.

I figure a 620 (Preferably a sport) would be an excellent choice since I could set it up close to my 800 and it wouldn't be so much different... to jump from one to the other. Some parts are even interchangeable so it would be smarter fro me to do that than to Have 2 ULSB bikes (the 800 and the Hawk)

Well if those are really your reasons for buying a monster and not just to "show those EX guys what a real bike can do" then more power to you.

I can't speak for all us PTWN racers, but my own motivation for getting into this class was to find a simple way of racing where I could purchase a bike that would be competitive "out of the box" and not worry about playing the game of "who can make their bike faster".

More power to the other classes, I'm not interested. I like spec class racing for what it is: equal bikes on equal footing competing to see who the best rider is. I wish there was more spec class. But since there isn't, yeah, I'll champion my little class against those who will seek an "edge".

We know our bikes are shitty, we know they can't compete against "real race bikes". That's part of the fun. Racing against other guys who want to see just how far you can push a lawnmower before it spits you off. That's all it is. But I like it.

hmm. i'll comment tomorrow on the so-called sanctity of P Twins.

p.s. darrell, change your first post, PTwins is about EQUALITY not EQUITY. nothing about that race has anything to do with equity.

Yes that is my real motivation... Jeesh!

I think the Spec class is great as well. If the 620 meets the rules doesn't that mean it shouldn't have a signifigant advantage? In the future I could see myself just running that class alone It would be a WHOLE lot cheaper. (But sorry not on an EX )

Maybe I won't be able to find a Cheap 620 Sport and a monster may not be practical as it will drag pipes all over.... If so I am out. There is NO WAY I am trying to ride a lawnmower and get spit off. You guys are almost as crazy as those motard riders!!

I gotta go w/ Darryl on this one.

I only did one Ptwins Race but it was one of the best times I ever had on a Motorcycle. So you can say I have a Soft spot for the class. and the respect for the guys who go out there ride the shit out em.

    DoC:

Focus young Jedi, You have a great Bike (duc) and you have made leaps and bounds in your racing this year. You would do more good for yourself by Running your Duc in (LWSB/GTL/ULSB/LWGP/Tunderbike) Instead of Ptwins Are you doing 7 Races a weekend? Next year?

I knew this would happen and The PTwins DEBATE.

If you can find a 620 Sport, they seem ideal... Put a power commander on it and jet it with the stock airbox lid and pipes, then go out and be competitive in PTwins. Come off the track, swap the pipes with a more open setup (15 mins), remove the airbox lid (5 mins) and load in the corresponding map (10 mins) and now you've got something that can give better showing in LWSM. One bike, multiple class weapon, it's like a swiss army knife with sticky rubber...

There was one for sale at the track I was eyeballing by the cafe, $3900 with a ton of spares, motor had a ton of updates. (Although I question the 6 speed transmission update, I don't recall any 620's shipping with a 6 speed... I know the 800/1000 tranny will drop in, but for PTwins you're supposed to pull from the same model?) Too much for me, but it didn't seem like an unreasonable price given the bike and spares collection. The owner claimed to have $12k wrapped up in it though, not exactly in line with the spirit of PTwins it seems.

WTF is the point? Just to race around with his pals? Like bringing a gun to a knife fight.

I could make a crack about not wanting to grenade the motor by running it for too long between major maint intervals... but I'll be the better man on that one.

That said, it is a legal bike for the class... if you can podium on it get the job done. 'cording to 'Factory Pro' it's tossing down 48hp to the rear wheel bone stock (aka PTwins legal) so it shouldn't be blowing the EX500s away unless they're really tired. Edit: Akrapovic lists stock for the SXV450 as 54hp rear wheel.
