exactly. Hawk not the best use of money outside of LRRS Loudon. Ps I used to race one just like Gino's. Switch 'Hawk' with 'motard' in the OP and it's the same deal. Yes u CAN race one outside of LRRS but that doesn't mean u SHOULD

OK..maybe i should say that a SS SV will OUTrun most ULSB hawks
a SS SV will run with most ULSB hawk any day. and its true. there may be a few hawks that will outrun a SS SV but 16s on a stock SV isnt unheard of. 14s on a SB SV and now that rick has a dyno at his disposal...12s..11s?
to answer ur question. Jeff did a 12.8 on Doug Scheer's SB SV a few years back.

70 Hp is more than a Tard at 55-60 hp but gives up about 100#. That this is approximately 12.5 HP, If you go by the 8 lb=1 hp vague rule plus that corning ability.

Nope. Gino's build is like exact same mine was, Matt Stone's is, Scott Ferguson's is, etc. Put out a good reliable 70-72hp.

Start with a 93 or earlier. Upgrade to 17 inch wheels.

Rip the airbox and carbs off, you're pre 94, you don't have to worry about staying stock there. A pair of big'ol flatslides will do the job nicely when breathing through a couple velocity stacks.

Again, you're pre 94, so drop the engine... cams, oversize valves, port the head within an inch of it's life. Bore the sucker out too, 600cc is easily achieved with reports of 80+ if done right. Honking loud exhaust, and you're done there.

Send the forks out to MEI-INC to have cartridges installed, have Peter Kates build a shock and then dial the whole package in. (Note, you'll get an earful for putting cartridges in 37mm flimsy fliers...)

Tada, a LWSS bike that is still the EX you know and love but will give you a fighting chance HP wise outside of LRRS.

If you can afford this, I've got a 110hp + aircooled Duc 800 project on the back of another napkin, not to mention my SV squashing GS500 build plan... Did I mention my LRRS legal ULSB 748 plan?

Now that the sillyness is out of the way, you have two options.
    1) Race what you want. This is club racing, right? Get the bike you want, till you're an expert it's 99.9% rider anyways, and even after rider still plays a huge part of it.
    2) Race to win. Pick a class, build a bike to the max based on the rules and go to it tiger.
the problem with your grand master plan here, is the bike would not longer be a supersport and would fall into superbike

Still 100% SS legal, as per CCS and LRRS. Pre 94 model year is the key. Old bikes are allowed to go bonkers in SS, as long as you retain stock swingarm/frame/forks/width wheels. You're also allowed to update/backdate within the same model, so the fact that the EX changed wheel widths when it went to 17s isn't a problem.

Nope. Gino's build is like exact same mine was, Matt Stone's is, Scott Ferguson's is, Doc's will be next year, Tomato's will be next year, and from the sounds of it so will 6 finger's, etc. Put out a good reliable 70-72hp.
Just to sweeten the HAWKamania pot.

P.S. There are few mere mortals that can pull off racing several tracks as the year goes on ..... David is one that comes to mind. In the Imortal realm .... thinking ...... the Wood bros are not only club racers.

P.S.a. If you are going to switch things up (race other tracks) you'll want to have / be VERY familiar with the bike you are riding. if the intent is to be competitive at said other tracks in the off season then you really don't want to be learning the charateristics of said off season bike at the same time as learning / racing off season tracks too. Seems that it would be too stressful for club racing ... but that is just my .02.

I'll throw my vote in for a Ninja 650. MW P-TWINS was cheap and a blast to ride this past season. I'd like to see a few more Kawi's out there...

    Re: Hawk or SV?

An instructor was railing a stock Duc Monster 696 at the last Penguin school I cornerworked, thing was FLYING... might make for an interesting MW P-TWINS mount that can take advantage of all the aircooled Ducs running other classes for setup tips/spares.

    Re: Hawk or SV?

I raced a Ducati 900 that'd be 'okay' motorwise in Expert at Loudon. I got SMOKED I mean SMOKED motor-wise at a non-Loudon track two weeks ago.

What makes a good Loudon bike doesn't always equate outside of our little weird track.

I rode the P696 as well Kurlon. Fun little bike.

I'd race my hawk anywhere, but the old girl and I have a long history together. If I were to get into this from scratch and at a different track I'd likely go with a sv.
