Mike, I saw in the other thread you mentioned trying to get lots of tracktime next season outside of racing.

Definately try and get up to Loudon for Friday Penguin Practices as well. They are every Friday before a race weekend. For $70 bucks and you get 3 sessions, sometimes 4. The signup is around 12:30-1pm and riding starts at 2pm. I should be going to all of them next season and if you are there I can link up with you in the Novice practice and do some laps if you like.

hmmm, I will try to make myself available for training as well. I'm sure Pete would pay the $70 to get him into the 32's.

Yeah I was planning on doing these too, I figure I have to get a little faster if I spend 1000 hours of time on the track next season!

when did I say that? Only time that i know for sure was taken off a tank mount camcorder i had at the July trackday & i was doin consistant and pretty relaxed 1:29's & 1:30's.... but I know for a fact that chasing Degsy during the next couple of trackdays the pace was picked up considerably, but i have no idea by how much... therefore I can only make an educated guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 1:27's, hopfully less.

haha. Sure Just remember, if you are following anyone on a little bike, you are going to have to restrain yourself down the straights. You'll probably feel like time is going backwards and you'll want to ride with one hand on your hip. No joke.

Oreo btw told me he ran a 22.4 during a trackday. Sup with that?

    There's no guessing at laptimes!

For me one day a 17 feels relaxed, the next it feels like lightspeed. pushing one second beyond your comfort zone is enough to fry your brain.

I think 32s on an EX you first weekend will be a challenge. Not impossible I suppose, but be ready to go backwards about 5-10 seconds from what you do on the 600 at a trackday where nobody's stuffing you up the inside at every opportunity.

The EX also requires a totally different approach. They are DOG slow until you can get the corner entry speed up, WAY up. Fun stuff!

My thoughts exactly, Paul. I'm fully expecting and almost HOPING to see my first timesheet full of 35's first time out on the EX.

And as far as guessing... aight, i'll give ya that one, I try not to be one of those "DUDE, I HAD TO HAVE BEEN DOIN 19'S!!!" guys, but in all honesty if i had to make a guess i was a few seconds faster than my on-tape 29's/30's at the July trackday... but for all intensive purposes, i'll say 29 to make all you bichiz happy

Daviid, where's that damn tape already???? get it online! I wanna show these guys how slow I am so they can continue to bust my balls (like they need a reason )

pete... the key to going fast on a slow bike is ALL cornerspeed. enter as wide as possible, apex, and exit as wide as possible. the more you get off the bike the sooner its upright and your back to WFO. you cant crack it all the way while its leaned over, but you will notice that you can hold it longer and get on it much earlier and harder than the ZX. im willing to bet that there are only 2 or 3 braking zones for EXs on that track

oh, absolutely... it's a TOTALLY different ball game than my zx... it'll be a fun learning experience no matter how old, slow & bad a chasis it is

The EX chasis is so bad it's good.

The advantage to learning on these things is that you NEED to make the straight as long as possible. That means holding the throttle on later, and opening it earlier than you ever dreamed possible.

Convieniently, the brakes on the EX suck. If you stay on the throttle late, there's no chance of overbraking! You're entering the turn fast for sure.

Then, it's *almost* impossible to highside an EX, so you can really expeiment with opening the throttle early.

Take that back to a 600 and you will be fast. If you start on the 600 it is VERY tough to approach what is possible because the brakes are so strong, and the motor will scare you. Lots of crashing to be done learning on these things.

you can open the throttle full while leaned over max on an EX, it doesn't have enough power to spin up--but ya gotta have some balls too!

Hey Pete.. remind you of our conversation Thursday night about turn 1 and 6? haha.

Also remember I said the only breaking zones I notice are 1, 3, and 6. Least we know we aren't all wrong?

Yeah, 1,3,and 6 were the only places I touched the brakes on the EX, and not much in 1.

I could spin up the rear in 2 and 3, but I also could drag the engine case guards on the ground!

It does require some throttle modulation at the limit, but it will take 1.5 years for most people to find that limit. it's somewhere around the 21 mark where things start sliding mid corner.
