Well that certainly clears a good deal of this up. Good read too, lot of good information out there that hadn't come up here, like the SA/M cert.Originally posted by a13x

Nuff said.
btw: Just for the record, no ill will in all this Darrell, good discussion here. Can't say that enough times on the Interweb, land of no body english or facial expressions.
And I couldn't agree more, anyone who posted here with an intention of adding to the discussion brought up important points in this thread, I think we all walked away from this with more points to ponder about our brain buckets, and that makes this a useful thread by any account. I hope I didn't personally ruffle any feathers here, and if I did, come find me some race weekend and we'll iron it all out over a beer or two.
(Except you Pete, fuck you and die motherfucker)
(snickering in my little midget corner) Oreo you can say whatever you want and I will still luv ya....By the Way![]()
I am glad they wrote that in Road Racing World because that article contains a lot of info that people were not aware of and for Allan, Paul and Myself who are constantly trying to help educate our customers. You can't make people understand I try sometimes just my nature but hopefully you guys can see just a little bit better a piece of the puzzle. So all of our offers still stand. And if you wear a helmet that you think may not be suitable just ask one of us we would be more than happy to help out. You don't have to spend a fortune to protect yourself think of it as investing into your future.

I'm at work here getting ready for our cappuccino crowd to come roaring in on their Ducatis (I'm sort of with you Jay...I just work here!) ...but most of us are OK...really.
Someone asked for some pretty heavy data from Arai - I don't know if I can pull that rabbit out of a hat, but I'll put in a phone call and try...don't expect an immediate answer (I'm still waiting on an answer about parts from Kathy from a week ago).
As for whether or not to buy an Arai or just any premium helmet, I will agree that FIT is most important, not neccessarily brand. BUT, what separates Arai from every other brand is the SHAPE selection (which results in the best fit out there) and the fine tuning one can perform with headliners and cheek pads (which again results in the best fit out there) and the light weight and the low center of gravity and the Super Advanced Shield Installation System (I know - it takes practice, but it IS one of the best engineered things I've seen in a while...I hated it at first, but now I get it) and the superior ventilation and did I mention the COMFORT!?! and the then in the end there's the shell construction that we're all arguing about. Anyways, come in incognito if you want and put me to the test - I will get you dialed in! 99% of humans can and do fit into an Arai - I practically never fail to make customers extremely happy and impressed with the Arai brand. A quick story: I fit a woman a couple of years ago and several weeks later a guy comes in and yells across the store, "Where's Allan?!? That bastard sold my wife a helmet and now she rides with me all the time!!" That's the result of being professionally fit for an Arai: SUPREME COMFORT!! AND you get all of the other benefits...just remember, the best fitting premium helmet is the best helmet for you and NOTHING fits like an Arai.
If I stop by with my arai can you check the fit and get me different cheek pads if needed? What's your schedule there?
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
I'm here till 8! ...and tomorrow 10-6:30 and Sat. 9-4 and Sun 9-4 also...
Oooh... what would REALLY be funny is if someone posted that on the CD-ROM (Crazed Ducati Riders of Massachusetts) list.Originally posted by Allan

Well, maybe not *the* horse, but certainly *a* horse...'s keyboard......whatever, some sort of equine posted this to the NEAR list:
Because there has not been enough time to get the word out to everyone ...

No one will be barred from racing in June with any brand of SNELL 2000 helmet.
***
(Clear enough?)
The above extension will possibly extend to July as well. Await more news ... but for the future, expect that any brand of SNELL 2000 helmet with fiberglass construction will be legal. (For you HJC fans, the HJC rep told Jerry that they recommend the "AC" model for racing.)
***
Expect to get an earful of fair warning at tech if you have a plastic helmet.
FWIW, I have made a suggestion that when the times comes, Tech makes a small indelible mark on the inside sticker of helmets that are suspect/banned when the rider has been told it will not be legal at a subsequent event. (So if that rider comes through with it again, he/she cannot claim ignorance.)
B.J. Worsham
This seems like a reasonable approach to the matter at hand, so sad, I was really looking forward to rounding up an angry mob of HJC owners to burn down the registration booth
Will be interesting to see what information springs up about polycarbonate helmets and other tracks now that the RRW article made this national...
Allan, Paul, Alex---thanks for the good posts, it's tough to convince some of these morons who just want to argue!
License2ill----you're a fuckin tool, just shut the fuck up + go kill yourself!
Darrel---you want a proof perfect test-cuz I'll help ya with it--you wear your HJC + I'll crack ya with a sledge hammer just once + if you can walk or talk afterwords, you win!!!
Webcrush---I guess they just don't care about you to check your helmet!
Saxman---you get the point---ya only get 1 brain, so protect it !!
Deb---I want to mud wrestle you next race weekend!
So Allan, your saying I should buy a good helmet, right?![]()
Thats some good info from you, I gotta check out Arai's at your store.
I always have bought Shoei helmets because they fit me perfect, I could never find an Arai that fit as well.....But I was dealing with some kid at a big dealership that honestly didn't know much.
...And Chad,
I got $10 that says Deb kicks your ass in mud wrestling, Fatty!

+ Nazo--if a Shoei fits good on your head, an Arai probably won't. They seem to have different head shapes. I've tried Shoeis in the past + they feel terrible on my head yet the Arais feel great (like I was holding my head between your mothers breasts)![]()
Nazo email me a non helmet photo of yourself

Wow, that's service!
If I send my mugshot photos, can you tell me which helmet is best? The one that they make me wear around the house is getting a little old.

Because none of our motorcycle helmets are snell SA approved. It's an auto racing standard. The article is misleading.Originally posted by Stoneman

Apparently a manufactuer has to pay $$$ to Snell to test helmets for each certification. Since no motorcycle Orgs require "SA", no motorcycle helmets are tested for it. Hence why no motorcycle helmets showed up on the "SA" list. Shoei/HJC/Arai/etc didn't feel the need to pony up extra $$$ for a irrevelant (at this point) test.Originally posted by Honclfibr

Boston --> San Diego
Makes sense, plus this way if you race both they can get you to buy two helmetsOriginally posted by a13x

Any idea if the SA specification differs from the M specification other than fire resistance? I flipped through the SNELL spec and it looked like that was the only difference, but it's long and dry and I got bored.
Actually, looking at the SA list doesn't it look like a lot of MFRs list very similar helmet names on there to their motorcycle counterparts? I'm wondering if there's any physical difference between, say, my AC-10 and the AR-10 listed on the SA approved list, other than SNELL sticker on the back and the model number painted on...
And it sounds like M is the same as SA but without fire resistance requirements since you don't usually get trapped in a burning bike.
I know. It was a joke...Originally posted by Honclfibr
