So how much do you spend on a race weekend?
Gas, food, beer, repairs, entry fees, etc.

My CHEAP BASTID break-down
infield entry - 20 bucks
race fees - 175-210 bucks (depending on whether or not I pre-reg)
gas - 20-25 bucks for the bike, your bike and car milage will vary
tires - I don't wanna make everyone else jealous so i'll say most guys spend between 2-400 bucks per weekend on average
Food - 20-60 bucks if you're a cheap date... less if you cook, more if you're a lush
All together, my bank account ends up being about 400 bucks lighter for a race weekend, but I don't spend nearly as much money as guys on more powerful bikes... a PTwins EX500 is a CHEAP bike to run, but the memories are priceless![]()

I really don't mind. No need for three sets of tools, three EZ ups (would be cool though!), etc etc. I have the stuff and don't mind bringing it!
Me and pete worked out a deal. I bring gas, he buys me lunch. Works for me!

It depends on what your objetives are, what your budget is like and how fast you wanna go. You're welcome to try out my bike at a trackday sometime to see if you like it.Originally posted by capt1014

For me, my objective was to have maximum fun, minimum cost
I wanted to spend as little as possible
and I didn't really care just how fast I went.
But the main reason why I picked the EX500 was because I wanted something that would serve well as a great learning tool. Something that would crash well and teach me how to corner a bike well.... the EX is dirt cheap and the chasis - in Paul Duvaul's words (see my sig below) is so bad it's good
If you've got the bucks & wanna go a little faster, an SV is an awesome choice... if ya got more bucks & wanna go faster than that, 600's are obviously the next step. You've also got the two-strokes... 125's and 250's... but I sat on a 125 yesterday and GAWD DAMN those things are tinyI can't immagine a guy of your height fitting on one.

Capt. i hear the cheap bastids have an extra ex500 for sale pretty cheap if you want to get into racing, i would like to but my cash flow this year is hurtin' maybe after i start makin some $ at PC Connection iw ill start racing with you guys
Yeah Kirk, that purple EX with no rear brake and most of the plastics missing looked like a steal to me, you should offer them $50 cash and see if they take it.![]()
KB said I should get out there on a 2fiddy, depending on whats up this winter, I'd like to make that a serious possibility.![]()
I know a little about everything, and alot about nothing.

EX is the way to go. You do have to learn to ride rather than turn and burn. I'm VERY pleased with my decision.
Money from my first race weekend:
Gas for truck and entire race team: $70
Penguin: $220
Entry Fees: $210 (3 races)
Food: ~$40 (including dinner out and a margarita, ate in mostly)
Race license: $75
Pit pass: $30
Numbers, pucks and #plates: $67
That's it!
Next time?
Gas
Entry Fees
Food
Should be around $300 or so total. Not bad!

I try to keep it cheap(er) if I can.
2 races per weekend (120)
1 set of tires (could be from 250-400 depending on your tire deal)
Entry to track
Food (50)
Round 500 a weekend for me, give or take.
Boston --> San Diego
What the hell are you guys driving to the track, that is an additional 125 at least? Here is my break down
Fuel to tow the big dumb camper that the wife wants. 125
Fuel for the Bike 50
Gate fee x2 60
Food & Beer 100
Entry Fees 185
Tires 250 - 400
Garage 50
Crash repair 0 - 500
If I add it up and multiply by 9 I will get sick!!! That is before you get a bike and set it up. It is a dumb hobby that I am hooked on and I LOVE... So I work more so I can go race. I race more so I can deal with work. Vicious cycle...or something like that..

Don't pay for gas for truck.
Put 93 octane pump gas in racebike.
Don't buy / drink beer at track.
Cuts a few off the top.
Boston --> San Diego
Don't forget the $10 for electric at the track![]()
When I was racing I found it was the little things that would add up the cost per race weekend.
I was blowing 4-5 bills a weekend running a motard, 2 sprints and 1 GT![]()
Just going up to hang out for the weekend is 2 bills at least, it cost me $110 in gas to get there and back this weekend![]()

Are you suggesting he just set the nozzle down on the ground after you're done pumping and drive away? Do you think you're in North Carolina, hillbilly?Originally posted by a13x
