I went to Indy last year and the mile was one of the hightlights for sure.
Wish I could have seen Kenny ride that thing in person.
That was cool as fuck. The sound of that bike alone was awesome!

It was totally amazing. The crowd went silent the first time he opened the thing up -- that bike just sounded like it was going to hurt someone. It made the MotoGP bikes seem polite and civilized. There was a big cheer from the crowd, sort of like, "Ha! That bike must have been great to ride when you were 20, old man! Now take it easy, put on a little show, and go home in one piece. You're the best!"
He took off on his first lap and went into Turn One way too fast and way too high compared to what we had seen in the heat races. He blew past every turn-in point anyone had used all night. In fact, it seemed clear that he was NOT TURNING. He chopped the throtle, the bike went silent, and he kept heading straight for the fence. The cheering stopped. It just got really quiet in an instant -- no sound from the bike, no sound from the crowd, and everyone thinking, "Oh shit, this poor bastard is going to get hurt."
Then, at what seemed like well past the point of no return, he pinned the throttle, a huge blast of sound hit the stands, and the bike slewed sideways on the very top of the cushion. He drifted the thing all the way around about 12" from the bales, never out of the throttle. The crowd (uh . . . me included) went fucking insane. He did every lap that way . . .
Man, I wish I could have been there to see that.
