that's a bunch of pics i've taken. you can watch #37 Mike Martire launch. He actually does it a couple times because the race was red flagged. Both feet on the ground, but the left comes up quickly and the right stays down for a ways...

Right leg down. As the boards change I'm holding the bike back with it pressed against the peg. Worked great for me last season.

Left leg on peg with foot under shifter
    Right leg down
    Weight forward
    Front brake on
    Throttle hammering

    Then drop the hammer.

    Re: Launching

Another reason why GP shifting is better (i know motards can't switch).

It's a pain in the ass when starting with both feet down, and having to get that foot under the shifter with everything else going on.

With GP, there were times when my left foot would actually step on the shifter before I even got it to the foot peg the first time. Start with left on the ground, shift down to second, then put foot on the peg.

    Re: Launching

I was at awe when I was an AM and watching Doug Henry take off in the EX ULSB RACE. I had a front row seat. I saw Doug's front end load up as he took off w/out wheeling. And boy did he take off like a bat out of hell. I need to practice modulating the front brake at the take off. There was some talent there.

    Re: Launching

You mean the front end loaded up because he was on the front brake & slipping the clutch while the 1 board was coming down?

That's what I do not that hard, really... in fact that's actually the easy part, just grab the brake lever while you're holding your launch RPM & begin feeding out the clutch to load the transmission. The hard part is what you do AFTER the green flag waves.

No, while the green flag dropped and running thur 1st gear. I had never seen anything like it. It sounds kind of counter productive. But in a way I have basically analyzed it. He is driving the front wheel into the ground.

I’ve got to see Alex’s Vid.
Sorry Alex, it does not give what I saw justice.

How in the heck would regulating the front brake keep the front end down? I dont understand that. Using the rear brake Id get, but the front?

Obviously. The vid is dirt and pavement is different. Just saying that's WHERE and HOW he learned to launch so well.

Roadrace start and grid is a ballet compared to the heavyweight bout that is a MX starting line.

If you to NE Dragway in Epping be extra careful if riding up - the local police have a theory that a lot of the bikes being taken there are stolen and pull bikes over according to that theory!

Do they hassle you if trailering a race bike up? Cause I know a number of racebikes might not have proper paperwork, not that I would know any personally or anything.
