I worked with Mike "The Bike" Baldwin at a motorcycle dealership a few years ago.

I'm better at selling motorcycles than he is.

He's better at riding them than I am.

    Re: Loudon Classic Winners

Mike Martire won it in 2006. Chuck Chouinard is correct for 2002. 1985 and older Classics you are listing the Superbike race winners. The Formula 1 race was the Loudon (Laconia) Classic. 1986 was the transition from F1 to Superbike. Wayne Rainy won the Superbike race, Randy Renfrow won the Formula 1 race. I'm pretty sure Fred Merkel won the 1984 Superbike race. That's the one Dale Quarterley would have won if his bike hadn't broken.

The race had been held since 1923 at various locations. Things got serious in 1938, when it received the AMA sanction and was held at the Belknap Ski Area until it was moved to Bryar Motorsports Park (1965 or so) The last AMA national was in 2001.

1953 Laconia Classic winner Ed Fisher, racing with Kerry Smith last June. His son Gary won in 1972.
Ed celebrated his 88th birthday that week.

Here I am with 1951 and 1952 winner Dick Klamfoth a few years ago. Dick was also the first three time winner of the Daytona 200, with all three wins on the beach course.

New member here.. I took this photo in 2006 at the classic and always wondered who it was...Pure dumb luck on the photo timing on my part. If memory serves, one of the riders in front of the guy crashing hooked a peg on a hay bag and it pulled out into the street. The guy went down trying to avoid it .

    Re: Loudon Classic Winners

That picture was taken at the USCRA's "Streets of Laconia" exhibition. They were not supposed to be racing. I was running the grids and the Assistant Starter for that event. I am looking hard at that number plate and I am pretty sure that it is John Ruffo on #175. I remember this well. It was the turn right in front of the video store and this was the very first session, which was meant to be a cautious testing of the track. Can you verify for me that they sent an ambulance to this incident? Bob Coy saw the scene from the Start/Finish line and started having kittens about the overall safety of the event. Now that I think of it, I think he also crashed the white Rieju at the right of the fist picture in the same place. That's John in the picture with the goofy smile. He passed away last year.
The second picture is Doc Batsleer's collection of Tank Shifter Indians. He brings them up from Florida and lets some of the USCRA people ride them. Doc is sitting on the yellow #35.
That was the first time I was actually able to work this event because LRRS didn't have the warmup event the weekend before the Classic. It was the last time we had that event.

Along the same lines, Rick Doucette was given this trophy for winning the overall LRRS championship.

List is updated. Contrary to the press release, Shane is not the first one to win four consecutive Classics. Mike Baldwin did it 1982-1985.
