Old picture. Here he is two years ago at Loudon. He has been working at H-D dealerships for quite a few years.

12 years after the Streets of Laconia event, we got the call from Laconia to recreate the original Tower Hill Climb, which was first held in 1916. Tower St. has since been paved, but we put together a good assortment of vintage bikes to send up the hill. Richard Chambers was flown in from California to be the announcer. I had some reservations, the property owners on Tower St. had reservations, but when all was said and done, everything went smoothly. The owner of the Tower St. Tavern is throwing in money to bring us back next year and the property owners are also looking forward for us to return next year. Shown is Bob Balla at the starting line with Bob Bove guiding him. Richard Chambers is on the left. I was the Starter an Cindy assisted me with the radio contact with the course marshals and the horn to signal me that the track was green. We were right on the main drag at Weirs Beach.

What’s so special about this hill? Is there risk the vintage bikes won’t make it up? Is that part of the excitement?

Because that's where the original climb was held back in 1916. In addition to running up a fairly steep hill, you also have to shift as fast as possible. Some of the bikes were hand shft, too. The oldest one we ran up the hill was a 102-year-old ex Conneticut State Police tank shirter.

Almost bought a house on tower hill... Believe there is a Cumby's at the top? So do the faster bikes get a LG iced coffee if they make it to the top? Not sure I see the attraction, maybe reverse it and see if the old bikes can stop before hitting the lake?

There were plenty of people there who saw the attraction. They got to see a full spectrum of bikes, from old tank shifters to a customer spec Kawasaki two stroke roadracer go full song up the hill. #950 in my previous post is a hand shift Zundapp. Ask Brian and Erin how they liked the show.

don't remember seeing this thread ... and i've probably posted this here before but my uncle Jeff was good friends with Mike when they were kids, then again later in life when Mike lived on the same pond in Darien, CT. think they would waterski together, had a slalom course set up in front of Mike's house. i lived on that same pond as a kid later on, used to kneeboard out there.

but the classic story about Mike was when my grandmother hid a minibike for him in their garage. apparently, his parents didn't want him riding so she hid it for him.
