I take the KISS shifting approach at NHMS on my SV, geared 15/46:

3rd coming out of T12 onto the straight
UP 2 gears (5th) in the straight
DOWN 1 gear (4th) into T1 (unless I hit a false neutral and launch myself over the bars)
    DOWN 1 gear (3rd) into T3
UP 1 gear (4th) into T5 (carrying 4th all the way through the back side of the track)
    DOWN 1 gear (3rd) into T11

Rinse and repeat. My best lap is a 1:17.9 and there's plenty of room for improvement.

Same here. When I did race. All of 3 weekends on the sv back in 2007. Wasn't nearly as fast as these guys though

Pete I am watching this again because I need some major jelp at T10-12. I am still very confused because I cant exactly see your throttle braking from the vid.
can you tell me a bit about how you enter T11? I do some serious coasting there. I am off the throttle before the "line" and coast all the way til the cone where I do my downshift and tip in.

I noticed that there is some serious shaking no matter where you are in T11. You can be right next to the grass and you can be 3 ft off the curbing in some cases...

Yeah I'm a little inconsistent with my entry line through there. Need to work on my vision & reference points.

I'm holding the throttle WFO to around the seam just before the cone on the left
    roll off,
    begin braking,
Begin my downshift before the cone on the right and SLOWWWWWLY releasing the clutch lever as I pass it.
and continue to trail brake all the way to the apex cone
then relax, relax, relax. If your bike is set up well it'll deal with the mid-corner bumps just fine.

For me, there is no real defined "tip-in" point as I'm trail braking hard enough that I have to just kinda bend it in.

    Wow. Thanks!!
I guess the WFO part is the hardest one. I also feel I can't trail brake there at all. Practice...

If you don't mind me asking, how many links are you running on your chain?

Not that switching from 45 to 46 will make me a 17 rider, but I've try to just play with the gearing a bit just to see, but the max I can run on my stock chain is 45. I also down 1 into the bowl like many and have to short shift to get in the right gear into T9. If I can carry 4th into T6 and all the way to T11, I think it will flow much better.

Just curious, running 46, will the bike be hitting the rev limited before T3?

You may already be doing this but one of the suggestions I got from a former "fast guy" was to grab a shift as soon after the transition in 10 as I could. This allowed me to get hard on the throttle sooner which helped smooth the exit of 10 into 11, it also gave me one less thing to think about while moving over the seconds transition and the bumps exiting 10. It felt weird and busy the first few times I tried it but after a little while I felt much more comfortable, still slow overall but...

Not sure I follow that.. I guess because I don't upshift on that straight at all unless I am following someone very slow out of T10.

I notice you don't shift from T2 until the down shift in T3. I do the same and I'm in 4th gear but I'm not going nowhere near as fast as you.
Also no shift from exit of 6 til down in 11?

    not sure this helps
i run 14/44 and yes, im very close to hitting the limiter between 2-3. someone faster than i would have to grab an upshift and then a downshift

Sorry, forgot to mention I'm one of the ones that downshifts into 9. Can't say I've tried not downshifting there, I'll have to give it a try.

Sounds like you're running shorter gearing.

    Ah, yup.

15/45 here and I'm still hitting the limiter into 1, 3, occasionally 6, and 11.

That was almost as fun as the onboard version of Brno! Nice racing Pete.
