LRRS, Bikes, & Classes

I really think I'll be taking up racing at LRRS next season. I already did a TTD and loved it and I've got a couple more set up just to be sure

That being said, I've been pouring over the rulebook and trying to figure out what bike & class I should go after. I definitely don't want to use my TL at the track because I don't want to drop it, and its probably too big of a displacement for me to be competitive on it. I don't know how competitive each class is and its kind of tough to decipher the class restrictions.

As it stands, I'm thinking of going with an SV650 in the novice LIGHTWEIGHT SUPERSPORT class. Does that sound like a reasonable starting bike and class? Will that bike allow me to be competitive in other classes? Could it run in LIGHTWEIGHT SUPERBIKE also?

Any other suggestions on bikes or classes?

an sv is a good choice to get into racing, still competitive in its own classes and yes you can run a SS bike in SB and GP classes (you can always bump UP a class). The rule book makes things confusing but its pretty straight forward. The middle weight classes (600cc I4) are definitely the most competitive and most expensive...for obvious reasons. But the LW classes are a great intro to racing. But there are also guys running 1:14's on superbike SV's too...so its not like its slow. There are also less hero wanna be rossi guys in the LW novice class than MW too.

u can run a supersport sv in any light weight class and be fine also you can run the sv in thunderbike

supersport sv`s you can change the exaust and frt fork internals run the stock rear shock and change the gearing and u`ll be competative with every other novice on an sv

SV's are great. For the already listed reasons.

For a CHEAP way to race look at EX500's

I still saw a Honda Hawk Gt is a great raceike as well.

I would stay outta the MW classes they don't call it the meat grinder for nothing.

Some Buells are exempt in some classes though, they're specifically mentioned in the rulebooks. DUnno which.

You're a fairly lengthy dude. An SV might be a better fit than a HAWK, even though I would like to suggest her. Light weight bikes=not as much abuse on tires.

SVs seems to be pretty comparable pricewise. I can pick up a 2002 SV for 2200. I'd rather have the extra displacement since I'm not exactly a light weight myself.

Yeah I'm fooling. Budget wouldn't permit whatever that would be anyway. I think your dead on, SV seems like the way to got for me.

You can get a race ready EX500 with spares for $1200.

An SV should do you good though. No replacement for displacement. Good luck!
