Graham, I emailed LRRS officials, a proposed revamp of the LRRS Saturday & Sunday Practice Groups Session schedule (essentially moving the ultralightweight bikes to 1st session & combining Amateur & Expert Big Bikes to a single session). The net change was only having 12 separate practice sessions, but extending each session from 12 to 14 minutes.

Has anyone even discussed my proposal?

Shrinking grids isn't unique to LRRS either unfortunately. Coast to Coast it's a problem.

My fairings are completely open underneath. I'd have to do some glass work. I didn't realize that's all you needed though.

On a bike with lower fairings, yes. Read the rulebook to ensure you have enough containment. I think it's 6 quarts but again, check the rulebook.

This very topic was argued about at length last winter.

Re: LRRS Making it Easier to get Started in Racing!

Just bought the bike to do it with today...I would like to do the Penguin class available in April, but here's my concern.

New bike I bought is a crf450. I've never driven a motard on the track, and there doesn't seem to be a track day before the April penguin weekend. Does the Friday penguin basic course provide a good amount of track time to get comfortable enough to run the rookie race? I know that would differ from person to person, but this will most likely be my first time on a motorcycle for the year.

    Youll get enough track time

No, you might get 15 slow follow the leader laps.

Eta the rookie race is 3 laps so that's tit, and I misread your post and thought you had never been on track.

You will be fine man. I had never ridden an EX500 before or rode on the track before I took penguin. Just have fun and it will all fall into place. I wouldn't be worried since you already have previous track time.

Plus, other than learning the shift points you'll discover it's the most forgiving 'sportbike' you've ridden. Have off, drop a knee and it's amazing what they'll let you get away with.

you must have skipped some sessions because you get a lot more than 15 laps. and I think they changed the rookie race to 4 laps this year but I could be wrong. its in another thread somewhere.

I'll be a newbie for the first weekend too. Completed Penguin last year, but it'll be my first official race.

I agree with most of the others, the Penguin class gives you a bunch of track time. The first two or three sessions are follow-the-leader, and then you get a few free sessions.

Plus, the rookie race is more about getting acquainted with race rules and practices, not lap times. So....do it!
