Seriously... this is awesome. I was kind of struggling to save up after being laid off unexpectedly this winter and not going back to work until the week after the opener. I was starting to think I would have to let my family go w/out heat, electricity, and food for a while... .

    See... there is a God!

Feels like recently there has been one progressive idea after another coming out of the LRRS and Penguin camps, which stands in sharp juxtaposition to the mid-winter transponder racing death-knell soundings that were heard round here. Well done, LRRS and Penguin.

Eric, any chance of this getting on a flyer/brochure? I wouldn't mind posting it at a few of the dealers and bike shops around here.

    Tim,

Thanks for the offer, and yes - you can have as many as you like. Shoot me an email at info@penguinracing.com and let me know how many you want, and the address to send them to. I'll get them right out.

We are trying really hard to build racing back up....do things that make sense. The speedway is listening and there is more on the horizon....

hmm maybe it was a miscommunication.

the guy at the gate asked me if I had preregistered for 3 races so I was thinking at the time that you get the free pass in that case but forgot that Eric had posted this here.

I understand the need for new blood (figuratively of course), especially given the high rate of turnover in this less than stellar economy. However, I selfishly propose LRRS offer a new incentive that appreciates the loyalty of those who have stuck with the organization ... an incentive for those who have spread the racing word and kept LRRS afloat through the "lean" years ... how about offering up to Expert racers, who have consistently raced for six of the last eight years, half priced entries plus a free weekend pit pass on their first weekend. In addition, and although they probably have their own transponders, offer them three weekends of free transponder use....

Re: LRRS Making it Easier to get Started in Racing!

I think part of the logic with the offer is that experienced racers have already made the upfront startup costs, which are the biggest hurdle to racing. If you've been racing for that long, you probably also started off when the economy was much, much better. With grids getting desperately thin, I think the point is we need to DRAW new people. Would a reward for the long timers be nice? Yeah. But I'm pretty sure if you ask most of the guys that have raced the past couple years, they'd rather be racing with a full grid than getting a 'thank you' discount every once in a while. I'm oh so thankful I raced in 40+ rider grids week in and week out for a few years, it was epic.

Yes it was. A good part of the reason I haven't raced is the grids. There's more competition at a trackday than lining up for the green with 3 other people.

It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?

Re: LRRS Making it Easier to get Started in Racing!

I gotta agree with Scott here.

I may not have a bunch of years of racing under my belt but I will admit that by far the single most exciting grid I've ever been in was at the Classic this past year. Starting as the last possible bike in a grid 30-something bikes all launching at once was rather thrilling!!

(Landing 3rd AM and 17th overall was kinda gratifying too!)

Re: LRRS Making it Easier to get Started in Racing!

Well that all depends on the track day... But I digress.

Some grids seemed to be decent this year, but there are some thin and disappointing grids out there, it's a shame.

I believe a similar program will be in place for 2012…stay tuned.

The whole idea (as mentioned) is to help a little with startup costs... and for those that want to see if racing is something to experience and figure out, "is it for me".

Track days are a world apart from racing... they serve two complimentary but different needs.

Some grids were well attended in 2011 while others (especially in the Novice ranks were light). In 2011 we made a conscious effort to move people up from Novice to the Amateur ranks as soon as racer hit required lap times (remember CCS does not have a Novice class - LRRS Novice class is a less stressful approach to getting into racing)

How about 2011. All I could find was a 2010 book online.

Holy cow, my bike is no where near ready. I don't even know where to look to get a fluid catch pan. I'm def going to need someone to look over my bike before the summer. I'll get some specifics from you Chip.

Re: LRRS Making it Easier to get Started in Racing!

What are you racing for a bike?

Your "fluid catch pan" is nothing more than a sealed lower fairing. If the Gizzer in your avatar is your race bike and it already has track plastics on it, you should be all set. Just patch up any holes. Only hole that can be there is for water drainage. I forget the diameter but it also has to be plugged.
