    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

I like the new layout, easier to read. I also see there be payouts to fight for this year, sweet!

...no practice defined for AM/EX UL inline 4s or triples, OH NOES!

The eject system is mandated specifically, rule 17.1.10.

EX500s are still exempt from the belly pan rule, nothing about motards though...

MWPT is gone along with Formula 50. There is a new class called P-89 for Pre-1990 model year machines. Interestingly, Motards are excluded... looks like it could be a fun class.

Novice classes are now based on the SB rules only, so no NV PTwins, SS, etc.

Sunday's schedule alternates now, and yeah, there are some NV/AM races... should be interesting.

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

Poked at the new schedule, and a couple interesting things jump out at me. For starters, running ULSB/GTL/LWGP means as a AM/EX I do all my racing on Saturday. GTL in the morning, LWGP for race 8, ULSB for race 10, then I'm done for the weekend.

Novices on the other hand might get 3 opportunities to race each weekend if I'm reading things correctly. The naming of the classes and how they're listed in the schedule makes it look like each super class has 3 sub classes. Novice Ultralights for example is listed as:

NOVICE ONLY: Formula 4; Rookie 4; Starter 4

When you look at the schedule you'll see that Saturday calls out 'Formula X' classes for racing. The Sunday schedules each have races calling for 'Rookie X' or 'Starter X' classes. So either the separate names are so they can let novices compare points in each subclass (IE people that can only run Saturdays can compare amongst themselves, etc) or they're going to rank novices by some internal system to filter them into the three subclasses... but I doubt it as that'd only give someone with one bike one race a weekend.

The P-89 class intrigues me the more I look at it also, seems like a way to get a common class between LRRS and the USCRA as the rules mesh nicely between the two.

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

Ok apparently my brain hasn't started functioning or I'm just a meatball. Can someone explain to me where int he Novice structure I will fit with my motard?

Also, what is the difference between Formula, Rookie and Starter under the Novice headings?

Looking at the Novice schedules it looks interesting that they would have unlimited superbike bikes on track with lightweight superbike bikes (race 6 Sat) and middelweight superbikes on track with ultralight superbikes (race 9 on Sat)

I don't know I'll need to look at this later when I am thinking again.

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

You go with the lowest class you fit into, which in your case means Novice F4/R4/S4. I think the only difference between the subclasses in novice is it's an easy way to allow for multiple races per weekend without pissing off their scoring system.

You're right on the schedule, I wonder if that's an attempt to make sure you get on track with a mix of machines/paces? Sunday's Novice races group NV 1 & 2 together along with NV 3 & 4 which is more like you'd expect?

I don't see a spot in the rulebook stating that you must ride in the lowest class that the bike fits into. It seems that riding up a class is allowed this year. I asked Wanda about riding up a class and she said that it would be allowed but needs to be approved by a referee or race director.

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

I like the change to the Classic. Last years race was awesome but had a disappointing end with the red flag. Looks like that wont happen this year

The payouts are pretty sweet. Should have been put in long ago. They should have allowed us to miss one weekend. Shit happens and sometimes people miss a race weekend. If that happens this season then they are out for the payout even if they win by a million points.

Now I just need to talk them into moving my practice time back a little

Formula, Rookie, Starter are all the same rules - the different class names are just so that you can identify which race you are in.

Riders can ride up a class at least in all classes that are Novice only. This gives 90%+ of all Novice riders (ULight, Light and MW) two races that they can run on Saturday. I know that the officials talked about the ability to bump up in the AM/NOV combined classes, but I want to be sure of the answer before giving the wrong answer there.

    More information to follow shortly.

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

Hell, bumping up one class in NV gives you 4 races a weekend (two Monday, two Sunday). SWEET. The proposed 2012 rule book had a section forbidding bumping, forgot to look for it when I was scanning through this time around.

If every other bike had a bottom end that was built to run twice the HP of the bike reliably, there would be no belly pan rule for anyone, now would there?

    Re: lrrs rulebook out 2012

I wanted to get confirmation before I announced this, but there is one other opportunity for Novices as well. Here's the deal:

BUMPING UP: Is allowed in classes that are Novice Only, but not for the combined Novice/Amateur races. This now allows for two races on Saturday for everyone except a rider on a 750 or 1000cc bike (about 5% of the Novices).

ROOKIE RACE: New program! It's back on Saturday as the first race. It is now 4 laps. Here is the real new part: Instead of having Mike Martire, or another Expert, start as wave 1, we are going to allow up to 4 rows (16 bikes) of Novices to be the first wave. The class will be noted as "ROOKIE RACE" on the entry forms, and since it is only 4 laps it will be half priced. It's a great opportunity to get more track time and a practice start to get things going for the weekend. There are no trophies/certs for this one and bikes will be gridded acording to size in the first wave. (ALL bikes together, big bikes in the front and small bikes in the back). The second and third waves will be the two real Rookie Race classes, as always.

Novices are limited to 3 races per weekend and with the exception of the rookie race you have to split the 3 races between two days or am I getting this completely wrong?

Yeah, pretty much completely wrong .... but it's OK.

The whole point of this was to open up more opportunities for Novices. They can now run 3 races (inluding the rookie 4 lap race) on Saturday and two on Sunday - way better than 2011.
