    Lap timers

what's everyone using and why? Likes dislikes? Lauren and I are looking to get a couple on the cheap but thought we'd consult the nesr racing brain trust. DanK suggested an XT and looks like they are about 175$ thought?

    Re: Lap timers

I had an XT, but it broke so I replaced it with an AIM. The model they sell at Street & Comp at the track. I think it cost around $230, works well and has a lot of options.
I love having a laptimer in pratice or more importantly in a race....otherwise how do you know your pace or the pace of the guy in front of you?
Before I had a laptimer I had some races that I felt I was pushing my limit and came in to see that I was a second slower than my pace.
With the laptimer I've been able to really put my head down in a race or practice and know where I stood with the pace.

I just looked at the specs and think I'd rather get a pair of the ultras for Lauren and I, besides i might not even be able to make the 29th bomo date so the lt's all yours.

    Re: Lap timers

Laptimers are a great learning tool. Especially for thursday and friday practice when times aren't getting posted.

DanZ, I wouldn't worry about your times being competitive. Everyone starts at the same place... the beginning. Racing takes years to learn and no one is competitive as a beginner. Just use it to work on your own program and everything will fall into place.

I have an old aim timer someone can have cheap. PM me before I start putting it on my MX bike! Nothing fancy, but reliable.

I got the XT Lap Timer Mini. It works well enough for what it does. Truth be told, I forget to look at it half the time. Its nice to have, but I def dont use it as much as I should.

Starlane GPS here. Kinda pricey but love it. I have it wired to turn on when the bike is powered and it remembers all the tracks when it sees them. No beacon needed. For the price you can get two or three of the others though. Prob overkill but got a deal on it used.

Yeah...I definitely want one for the next weekend. There were a couple times out there I thought I was doing a lot better, came in to see the times and left garage 7 with my head hanging...

Words of wisdom right here... Very good point. I will try to keep this in mind next race weekend

    Re: Lap timers

I'm sure this has already been posted all over NESR (because I just got the interwebs), but I came across this http://trackmaster.trackaroo.com/welcome which allows you to turn your android phone into a lap timer. Looks pretty sweet, as long as you're willing to possibly part with your expensive phone some day.

Just think, you can be on the track, time your laps, get turn by turn directions if you have a bluetooth helmet, and even listen to some sweet jams. Sounds like fun huh?

sounds like the last thing i'd want going on while on the track. not to mentiont he risk of wrecking your phone if you crash. and yes, it was mentioned already by Buzz Killington on here (also known as Garandman)
