One compressed vertebra. He's out of the hospital. Not bad at all considering. Biggest highside I've seen in years

    From Team Hammer's tweets

Medical update on Valentin Debise: we are happy to report that he is awake and fully aware of what happened.

Medical update on Valentin Debise. He was transported directly to Halifax. We are at the hospital and will release an update on his condition once we know.

Does anyone know for sure what happened? Did the back tire break lose .. or did it lock up? I can't imagine the line is that slippery when it's so hot out.

Re: A Daytona 200 Flying French Man

It was def rear tire related for sure. I read on the internetz that the rear tire blew up (similar to what happened to jonny rea last season that sent him for a massive highside) i would think locked rear wheel or tire explosion....

Re: A Daytona 200 Flying French Man

Yeah, something looked a little fishy with that rear wheel...

If it were some kinda rapid tire deflation, one would think the rear tire would've just come around and lowsided him, and not regain traction to flick him like a booger.

Thinking it coulda been a rear wheel structural failure. It doesn't quite look right as it's flicking him into the air.

Re: A Daytona 200 Flying French Man

Looked to me like a chain adjuster issue. The rear just kinda turned into spaghetti.

I agree that a deflated or deflating tire will not launch a rider like that.

    Not on that turn

    - - - Updated - - -

I haven’t heard anything but based on how wild it happened I wouldn’t exclude oil on the tire.
He seems to be looking down on his boot a few seconds prior.

Like I said above though... it was a hot sunny day... I can't see the white line having that much less traction there?

I guess if he turned in hard, and added a bunch of throttle, AND hit the white line... it could all have added up?

With his skill level though, I am still thinking something mechanical - but I was leaning toward the driveline rather than the tire based on how quick it stepped out.

I was wondering the same thing, so I replayed the footage, scaled the dimensions of the bike, calculated how fast he was travelling at, then measured the entire arc from angle of launch to angle of impact, and I'm making all of this up.

Someone claimed to do the analysis using google earth and got 135 ft. I believe it was at least that far.

Have to admit... every so often when I'm going down the straight at Palmer, or Thompson, or wherever.... it creeps into my mind:

"What if my bike just locked up right now?"

The general rumor points to the lines at DIS, and that they include precisely ZERO friction modifiers, and are not FIM approved paints.

I was worried about Barnes when his bike started smoking and he wasn't slowing down. Flat out down the back straight at Daytona.....yup I almost covered my eyes.

Slowing down? A couple times on the oval it looked like he still had MOTOR on people despite smoking on decel. Did they announce what failed? My thought was it was sucking oil through the intake?

Anti Trump camp said he was trying to practice jumping a border wall, while pro trump camp saw it as a failed salute to NASA.

Word on Facebook is that a k&n oil filter failed. I have no way to confirm this obviously, but it would explain the strange crash.

you sure that was regarding this crash? I did see that post but thought it was another rider?

Either way, that was messed up about the filter! It almost appears that the oil leaks right at the base of the nut K and N uses on the end of the filter.
