    Monster Racing

Jayroot and Jesse announced a pretty tempting package last night at the banquet. I've been thinking about doing something different, now this comes up...

Anyone want an 800ss or 08 Hyper?

BTW - congrats to all the 2010 champs and podium finishers.

SG you killed last night, you had Ricky's voice nailed!

    Re: Monster Racing

    In a nutshell:
Buy a 696 or 796 from Seacoast ready to race, they have 3 different tiers - entry, mid, and all out (contact them for the details).

Ducati NA is posting contingency for these bikes, maybe Dunlop as well. Possibly a deal on tires.

Seacoast will match any contingency you get from Ducati.

No AMA hard card holders allowed in on this - only us club racer types.

They're starting the program with LRRS, and we're the only ones in the country eligible.

(Robb or Miles might be able to correct me on any of this info if I'm wrong)

The 796 makes the same HP bone stock as my Bruce Meyers-built 800ss.

I've been contemplating getting away from street riding and going dirt & track only. I only rode the street 3x last year and it really does nothing for me. I might try to do this, or buy a motard. Either way, I'm thinking of selling the Hyper (and maybe a Jeep).

I can't remember....Too involved in running my numbers in my head to retain ALL the details.

Contact Seacoast and talk with Jesse. I talked to him a little about the bike at the pub afterwards, but not about who was eligible for the contingency.

I would assume that it is for all levels. My guess would be that the payout would just be less for the AM and NV fields.

There was also a mention about 848 contingency. But only 15 riders in the US are being selected for that program.

796 makes = 80 Hp. from what I was told $13,000 ALL race prep. I'm kind of drooling.

Guess I need to find 80 HP and a lighter bike.

I'm also thinking that they may rethink SV/EX for ULSB???? Don't do it.

If they do then I hope that the Hawk can be competative elsewhere... Maybe allow it to run Superstock in Superbike trim since it is so old.

That's a lot of coin. 80HP has to be at the crank. Also, don't monsters have a clearance problem? Or have the addressed that in the new model? Sounds like a fun class within a class though.

Something tells me that a $3k SV is still going to be the "entry level" bike for many years to come. Huge props to Seacoast though, they are definitely stepping up to help support racing. For those with the means.... a helluva package.

It did 16 pretty much sitting still obviously with Jeff on it. I think there was a bunch of Wood magic to address some clearance issues.

    Re: Monster Racing

Jerry Clark has a 696 and he's complained of dragging parts while instructing track days. He doesn't have any ride height adjustment though.

I drag raced Jeff coming out of 12 & down the front straight during the last ULSB race. What's he weigh, 85lbs? He wasn't pulling away from me, but I hit the brakes for turn 1 (which felt like about start/finish compared to him) and he proceeded to pick people off from there.

Gino - what's that last line mean "Don't do it?"

    Re: Monster Racing

The new monsters are a monumental step forward from the previous gen in both motor and handling. I'm stunned that a stock one could turn a 16 with the clearance issue. No way it hell my old one could do that. Of course, I understand the Jeff factor.

JT, the brakes on the new M are amazing, but I think it was the lack of braking required to go fast that you witnessed there.

    Re: Monster Racing

I have done ALOT of laps this past season on my Monster instructor bike. Its a stock 696 with Woodcraft rearsets (with shift and brake pedals). I am not sure of the design (up and back numbers) of the rear sets, but I can tell you I didnt have a ground clearance issues with dragging hard parts. I remember having to pay attention to my foot placement and keep them tight to the chassis in order not to drag my boots, but it wasnt awful (like a motard).

The bike I ride is all stock, with Dunlop Q2 tires (trackday/street tire). I am confindent as that bike sits I was turning 17's (maybe 16s)on it, but I was never timed.

This is all with no dampner and no suspension setup. The bike has a light feeling in the front that would be helped greatly with an addition of a steering dampner.

I rode the bike that was built into a racebike that Jeff rode with the motor & suspension done, NTEC Tires and it was much more stable (still no dampner) and very capable racer.

Eric has also designed a setup to eliminate the stock handlebars with a new upper triple clamp with bar holder mounts directly on the triple clamp. He had a sample on display at the banquet.

The only question I have is : Whats with the AMA Hard card exclusions!?! :-) Looks to be a fun class for sure.

In the end, I am just glad to see a Manufacturer supporting racing in general with contingency and its great that they are active with the LRRS series.

The M796 is running 78 to 81 HP at the rear wheel out of the crate depending on the dyno you run it on. Timed and with squish set properly, and a dialed in map, cans, 85hp should be well within reach.

I've been busting my ass trying to find info on racing my 696, so thanks for the posts! I'm looking at rearsets now due to dragging during the one and only track day I got in this year. Also looking to replace the factory double butthole pipes.

Given the numbers the 796 makes out of the crate, not much point blocking the SV/Big EX any more... which sucks 'cause ULSB is the one class left for interesting non-mainstream mounts.
