    Miss-Matching Tires?

I have a set of H2s on my EX currently but when loading the bikes last night the rear was damn near flat and there was a nail in the tread. Air rushes out when the nail is removed. The Dunlop guy at the track right now has a set of tires that will fit my rims. I hear the Dunlops are better but was told just to plug it. The tires have 3 trackdays, Penguin, and 4 races on them; still plenty of tire left.

    Should I:
-Try and plug it? (I don't have a kit or the know-how)
    -Buy just the rear?
-Buy the set? (To avoid the Michelin front and Dunlop rear)

    Thanks for any advice,
    Harrison.

After 5 yrs on the track, this is my 6th, I have found it is not the envirnoment to skimp on cost.

Buy the new tires and go like hell without the worry.

    Re: Miss-Matching Tires?

I would NOT race on a plugged tire. Personally, I think thats foolish.
Theres a number of racers that run mismatched tires on the EX, I cant remember the combination, so its not unheard of, whether its a good setup or not, I dont know..
I personally run michelins front and rear, so I'm not much help there.

spend the money on the new set of tires - from what i understand they'll last 2 seasons or more on an EX

    Re: Miss-Matching Tires?

I wonder where you got that nail.

I would not plug a tire for the track. I have for the street.

I've mixed and match for the street. Not for the track.

Tires still seem fresh. Just replace the one with the hole.

    Re: Miss-Matching Tires?

I was told it's more the compound that matters than matching brands on track bikes. Find a compound you like for the front, run it, same with the rear. If it turns out they come from different brands, who cares if it feels good?

    Re: Miss-Matching Tires?

So I'll go with what I figured was the smarter (and most expensive, of course) choice and do the responsible thing of buying the set.

By the way, is the Thusday and Friday practice worth it? Thinking about driving up to try and get as much track time as possible.
How much are they and what's the schedule and track time like? I think Friday is something like 2-5...

    Thanks for the help guys.

Oh and I would probably just replace the rear with another H2 but I think they have been discontinued...

    H2's are long gone.

Try the Power Race Soft in 110/70-17 and 150/60-17. We will have them at the track.

Thur and Fri are both $100 each plus gate fee ($10 for thursday, then $35 friday-sunday)

Thursdays you tell the person at the gate if you're paying for the afternoon with a card, he'll charge it there....then you bring the slip down to the media center at 1245 when you sign up and sign it there.

Fridays you just go to the penguin garage, they'll hook you up.

other than that, bring gas and your bike....and rock out with your cock out

    1. It is most expensive, but like was mentioned I have a full year on my tires and I got a ways to go.

    2. Thursday is a good deal, I did it last race weekend and it was like 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off from 1-5. Friday you share time with Penguin so I believe you get quite a bit less time.
