    Show Me The Money...

Brought up in another thread: Where's all the money go that racers pay to race? What's the breakdown? Gate fee, entry fees, electricity (I've always thought that was a scam!), etc. Where does it all go?

I'm going to take a guess and say it goes to out-bidding the car guys for our weekends.

I wonder how much the Nasty car guys pay for the track.

My guess is that NASCAR teams RECEIVE money for coming to the track. I have no idea...just my guess.

Just do the math...if you have 90,000 tickets sold at an average of what...maybe $75 each ?...that's $6,750,000 that the track receives. Add in half that again for food concessions and the track's cut of hat/shirt/etc sales, and they take in a decent amount for a day. Sure, they have expenses for the day, but it's still their big cash cow.

I bet they don't go around and ask the NASCAR teams for $10 for electricity...

They have 300,000 fans in the stands (or whatever).

    We have 3.

If you owned the track, who would get to use it, and who would have to pay?

I'm with you Scoot', just guessing.

    One could probably just ask.?.?

I bet the payout from the TV stations covering the NASCAR race is even bigger than the admissions + concessions take.

Most of it probably goes to NASCAR and the racers but I'm sure some of it goes to the owners of the track.

AFAIK TV is where most of the big money comes from in any Professional sport.

Not talkin' about NASCAR. Which, by the way, has a very different agreement than Nextel Cup...

I'm just curious to know what happens to all that money the motorcycle racing crew pays to play at NHIS. Howz it divied up is what I'm after, really...

Like, how much of what goes to LRRS? CCS? US Marshalls? NHIS?

The Bahr family owns the track. As I understand it, they could make a lot more money by NOT renting to motorcycle racing groups. The car clubs pay more for the place. It has taken some commitment from NHIS to rent the track at a lower fee to LRRS and USCRA.

I don't know where the money goes, but I sincerely doubt anyone in LRRS is getting rich from it. People have to clean and maintain the track and facility, provide security, etc. LRRS has to pay ambulances, rent timing and scoring equipment, race officials, a starter, an announcer, corner workers food and other re-imbursements.

Administering an event like LRRS is a HUGE job. It takes MANY people and costs MUCHO dollars.

Could it be better managed? Yes. Are the people who are able to do that available to the organization anyway? Probably not. They're off making better money managing other businesses.

Good post, you seem like you've done a little homework.

Technically, I don't own my house either. Yet.

A trackday costs about $8000.00 to run soup to nuts.

PLUS, hours and hours and hours of organizing.

Makes you wonder how nice it would be to have a truly devoted road course in the New England states. They could literally have the bookings 7 days per week...whether thats car or motorcycle road racing, trackdays for cars or motorcycles, karting, etc. 7-8k per day(probably 3-4 times that for clubs like the Porsche or BMW owners groups) X 6-7 mos. of available tracktime. Not bad change there either. No need for the massive grandstands like Loudon. A simple clubhouse and garages. All the more reason to hope for a place like Tamworth.

Nice to see I got people thinking!! My point was why can't LRRS pay more money for cornerworkers out of what they make from us? We pay a lot of money now to race, so I don't see why we have to pay $5.00 more for something they should be paying for. I just can't justify this. This seems like a management issue to me, so maybe this should be brought up at a rides meeting!!

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind paying $5.00 if I had too. It's a small price to pay to know i'm safe and to have someone there to pick my ass up!!

    The ballpark breakdown is this:

    You gotta pay for

    1. the track
    2. the ambulances
    3. food and beverages
    4. corner workers
    5. instructors

the track is not cheap. Over $5k for the day.

    Track expenses

The biggest expense to run a track is the insurance, taxes, medical and rescue staff, and maintenance. I am sure they make good money but not as much as you would think.

Lets build our own track. I need a partner.

The track doesn't pay the $5k to it's self. NHIS "owns" the Loudon Road Racing Series in that they are the promotor(as much promotion as there is). They pay people to run the day to day stuff but at the end of the day everyone there for the most part is an employe of Bob Bear(I think there is an H in ther some where). I am sure that some of the old timers have a stake in the series but as I said the track owns the series.

This is what I understand from talking to people in the garage who have been around a lot longer than I. So take it for what it is worth....

Gerard, we were talking about track days. I have no idea what LRRS pays the track for the day.I believe it is based on a ercentage of the gate and entry fees.

My list there was for private rental.

    So let's build our own.

We need a lot of land, a few members to build houses and elect a mayor, a couple of us will run a business on the side, we'll vote ourselves in and run a racing series!

No. My original post in THIS thread was about the actual races. Racers pay a lot of money for the 'priveledge' of using NHIS for their races. Just wondering what that breakdown is, if it's even public knowledge...

What do you mean 'payouts'? Like contingencies/'purses'? I believe vendors pay for those...

    It's like this:

Depending when you get to the track, you pay $20-$30 for your pit access. Who gets that? And that's for spectators too, by the way...

Then depending on whether or not you preregistered, you're looking at $50-$55 (sprints) or $100-$110 (GT's) PER RACE. Who gets that?

And the $10 per outlet you're using of 'theirs'. Who ARE 'they'?

I'm sure vendors hafta pay a 'fee' too. Where does THAT go?

I was under the impression that photog's also hadta pay a special 'fee' to gain 'all access'. If this is true, where's that go and WHY?

I'm not critiquing the system here. Just curious as to the breakdown of all this...
