    Motard Dunlops

Which dunlop model and size is the hot setup for motards?

I assume 120/160 (or 165 in dunlops case) and the GP211 slicks? Or NTECs? For the 211 what year and place of manufacture? Etc.?

Yeah I saw the list of options on the site, just wondering what people use at Loudon. Also the 165/55 looks like it's meant for 5.25-5.5 rim so it might rub.

I have 17's front and rear with 5" rear. I also have a spare set of wheels with what looks like a 16.5 front but they're spoked (I might sell em), I want to keep my march's on there.

Dunlop has a 170 rear made specifically for motard. More triangular profile, I liked it on my KTM. And they also have a 125 front (I think also sumo specific) that I liked quite a bit.

165 on the sv, 4.5" rim.
I think all dunlops rub the chain

Chris, I Ran a 125 Front slick and a 165 Rear Slick worked great. I can probally find you a set of take offs to try next year.

Yeah those supermoto-specific ones looked interesting but I wasn't sure if guys ran them at Loudon... do a lot of the guys use those?

You want me to use your takeoffs so you can get a leg up on me?!?!? hahaha

I figured the 125/165 is probably what guys used since those are the SV tires as well... are those the 209 or 211 slicks? i assume this is what tyler/root/donovan/brent/etc use?

I am not very fast anyways (22s) but hope to get quicker.

22s is pretty quick on a tard. I would recommend trying the 165 and the 170 rears. Some guys like the 165 better, I prefered the 170. A lot of the guys I know are running 165s because they can get SV takeoffs. FYI the 170 is only available in a Med compound (unless that has changed in the last 2 years). I never had any issues with traction and it lasted pretty well -- I'd usually run it for half a season doing 4 races/weekend, then take it off and Clark would run it for the rest of the season.

I don't know what the fast guys are running for fronts, other than Shane running a DOT.

Thanks for the info Brian. I'll have to figure out what I want to try for round 1.

SV takeoffs front and rear would be a good way for me to test them out.

And if I like the DOT front better I could use takeoffs from my R6

Chris, dunlop slicks aren't 209 or 211. They are like KR106 or 108 or something like that.
