    moto2 prototypes

Wow! Quite a few manufacturers going with trellis and hybrid trellis frames. Some whacky looking swingarms and stuff. This class could have an important role afterall. Booting the big factories out gives a place for the chasis specialists to do cutting edge stuff.

That looks like an early '90's bike!

So what's the advantage of the trellis frames? Lightweight? Stability?

Regardless, I think the idea of Moto2 is great.

I'm hoping Tony Elias does well in Moto2.

In earlier days a major benefit was ease of manufacture, you don't need large casting equipment, just a supply of material and welders... meaning a small shop can turnout a chassis in short order. Especially important in GP, when changes must be made quickly.

Of late, further advantages have been found in the ability to utilize different materials or sizing (outer tube size, wall thickness, etc.) to literally "tune" where the frame is rigid and where it will flex.

It looks like an exact knock off of a 125GP bike, which is a pretty good idea I think. The honda and yamaha factory 800s have gone back towards the beam design.

I woulda said a 250, but they're about the same thing. I just thought it interesting that it looked so similar to what's been done before, while some others are taking radically different approaches.

Should be an interesting series to watch!
