Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Just looked it up... Cal had 4 DNF's due to crashing out in 2017 (5 if you count being taken out by Pedrosa). That's really not that bad.
I'd also throw the theory out there for debate that he's pushing that bike harder than some of the other riders around him just to finish where he does.
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
2011 4 times and one DNS from a practice crash
2012 4 times
2013 2 times
2014 6 times
2015 3 times plus 2 involving others
2016 6 times
So granted I have not checked on others so he may be on avg. with the group?
and you have a valid point he does try very hard all the time and is as brave as they come. But he on very good equipment on par or better then what other non factory riders have.

Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Well after his ride today I am a new believer.
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
wet makes it a very different race
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
LOL Did you watch that race... Slicks on a drying/ Wet mess of a track Yes it sure does make a deference...
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Are you not entertained?
Riveting race from sighting lap to MM trying to apologize to VR in the pits. No Repsol Honda, Movistar Yamaha or Factory Ducati on the podium. MM's bumper car impersonation cost him 11 championship points, he'll wish he had those later on this season
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Yeah, entertaining for sure but I'd prefer less of a shitshow to be honest.
From the botched start to MM's on-track temper tantrum it looked a little too much like professional wrestling.
I've lost what little respect I had left for Marquez.
That apology had the thinnest of veils. "I'm a cunt and it's making me look bad at the moment, so I need an acceptance of my apology ASAP" kind of move.
Kid needs to grow up.
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Marquez is an idiot that'll ask the bike to do things that it can't & usually get away with it... He'll also stick his nose (among other things) into the tiniest of places that it doesn't belong to be in...
He's not a smart rider... BUT... that's also a big part of why he's won the championships he has (and why he's so entertaining to watch).
I honestly don't think there's ever been a malicious bone in his body, it's just that he's not all that smart of a rider, especially when the red mist settles. He's matured a little bit over the years but obviously still has some more of that to do.
I'm as big a Rossi leghumper as the next guy, but he's being a bit of a drama queen. If that happened to any other rider I don't think Rossi would have been QUITE as critical. "Ruined the sport"??? No.... I understand what VR is saying, I wouldn't wanna be out on track with MM behind me either, but no... he hasn't ruined the sport. If anything, he's made it more interesting to watch.

I'd rather have watched him progress through the field and do legitimate battle with guys. The minute a rider employs a riding strategy involving using other riders as a berm we're done talking about racing. I'll happily don a flame suit here, but I don't think VR is off the mark when he asserts the placement of MM's front tire (basically right at the rider in front's inside leg) during these dive bombs is pretty indicative that he's not trying to make the turn. Tire is at center mass of the rider in front and he keeps the bike more upright on the way in knowing he'll upset the rider in front, use them as a berm, and not fall down. Unacceptable tactics (if as VR says, it's intentional).
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
I think Marc is raising the acceptable level of risk as the safety equipment allows him to get away with more and more. It's even a lot less dangerous to be taken out with an airbag suit on. It may be that the rules need to catch up with the safety advances. It used to be life and death, now, they rarely break any bones. Look at Dani. He was taken out and high sided. 4 years ago he would be looking at more collarbone surgery. Now, he gets up and walks away.
This stuff is going to happen MORE as the risk of injury and death goes down. Write CLEAR rules regarding this, or STFU.

I don't really care how good the gear is, if you can't make a clean(ish) pass, especially on riders lapping over a second slower... you're doing it wrong.

If that's really the case, the the question in my mind is this: Who the fuck is he to make the decision of what's acceptable risk to other riders safety?
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
Things change, and some resist change, others adopt it fluidly. He is simply changing the way it's done. I'm talking more about his riding style here, but I think the incidents are just an extension of that.
Let's face it though. Rossi has taken out PLENTY of riders. Did you ask the same of him? I don't think Marc is new in that regard, but his style of riding, and pushing over the limit regularly is new. It's still apparent on track that he is different from the rest in approach. We have all seen the saves and the moves he will try. No one else is there yet.
Who is he? He is the guy who is changing the game. For better or for worse. Or both.
Re: Motogp: Yamaha f'd up
I'm honestly annoyed as fuck that this topic is being discussed in this thread. We have a MotoGP 2018 thread. Topic of this one was to discuss how Yamaha "fucked up" their handling of Zarco. God damned amateurs. All of you.
