    Motor work, looking for experts

My race bike has a problem with the motor (I think I may have a bent or broken valve). Does anyone here have experience working on CBR motors? I am pretty good mechanically but I would like to have someone there to supervise while we strip the top end down. Also, if anyone has a compression/leakdown tester I could borrow for a couple of days, that would be great.

P.S I will pay you for your time.

    Motor work, looking for experts

My wife knows where my compression tester is...
    I have the torque wrench....
I no longer have the valve spring compressor, and valve guide tools. Probably wouldn't matter, because it was for Yamaha, and general automotive use anyway.
    If, the valve(s) got tagged,
You are gonna need to get cooking!
I believe the engine must be removed from frame to get the head off anyway.
Do the compression test first, will tell you everything you need to know.
If it is the valves, you should replace valve springs too. This may have been caused by excessive revs, and the springs may be tired. No sense replacing the valves, and turn around, and pork them again. Honda Manual should have all the specs, for what the pressure is for inner and outer valve springs. Just need a tester to check them out. Any automotive rebuild shop should have one.
If this Guy in Walpole is supposed to be the man...Get a hold of him fast....Hopefully he has all of the valve seat cutters you are gonna need along with the degree wheel for setting the cams back up. I'm not sure if you have adjustable cam spockets, shouldn't need to degree them back in if they are disturbed

BTW....If I can help, no need to shell out the cash..just make sure there is coffee to drink...

Thnaks for all the great advice, but I have the problem solved.

I have 2 small holes in the #4 header pipe. There is a spring that goes from the header pipe to the engine that helps hold the headers on (they are race headers). The tab for the spring had broken off and taken a small part of pipe with it, leaving the 2 small holes. I will have them welded tomorrow and that should fix the problem. YAHOO!

Hmmm...seems that someone I know suggested that it was something to do with the headers. Ya know, while you & him were sitting in the bar in Loudon that Sunday doing shots of Cuervo?

    Well,
If I was there and heard the engine running, I would have told you the same thing! Good to hear it's just an exhaust leak..

Okay. First off, I think we both know that I'm a ninja-ninja, not a ninja as you put it...

Secondly, don't get too ahead of yourself. I talked to someone over at Rochester Motorsports about that sound. He says that while it may indeed SEEM like an obvious exhaust leak, it's very common for '99 F4's to exhibit that type of symptom when indeed it's really a scored cam. So we'll hafta keep an eye on that too...

Oh, and ANSWER YOUR FUCKIN' EMAILS!!!

Well, maybe we should take it down to ROCHESTER MOTORSPORTS anyway. Say, Friday after your practice? I think maybe they should look at 'em for ya anyway. They seem to have a knack for finding things like this when people think it may be something else. I just don't wanna take any chances, ya know?
