    NHMS Marketing

Every time there's a NASCAR race at NHMS, the HR dept at my workplace sends a couple e-mails with special ticket package deals for the race. The mails have a nice big NASCAR Sprint Cup Series logo, and they'll even let you pay with payroll deduction.

LRRS could sell season tickets for about the price of a NASCAR deal. Maybe not really that cheap, but they could create an attractive deal for spectators. Even if they sold very few tickets, it would at least extend a bit of LRRS brand awareness to the general public.

I never noticed until today that the NHMS website doesn't have information on entry fees, much less actually sell LRRS tickets on their website, and there's no useful spectator information.

Anyway, does anyone else get similar NHMS NASCAR e-mails at their workplace?

And is it just me, or does NHMS seem to actively discourage LRRS spectators by providing no information about attending LRRS races?

Dunno if I'd go THAT far... I just think they don't give a shit compared to how much they care about NASCAR revenue.

True, but it wouldn't take much effort to have a little information for the few people who might actually want to watch a few hours of racing. Things like cost and how to buy tickets, start and end time, where to watch from, what to expect, etc. I'm not even sure you can tell that spectators are allowed, based on the website.

Actively discourage was a bit strong. How about passively discourage, or benign neglect?

I'm not sure a ticket fee schedule would do you any good. The fee you are charged seems to vary by who is standing at the counter when you walk up. I always go for one day, usually Saturday. I'm not sure I've been charged the same amount twice.

Finding a LRRS race schedule is .. non-trivial. I was running late on my way up this Sunday. Aimed to be there by noon and was about 30 min late. Brought a schedule up on my phone to try to see how many race I'd mis. Wound up with a schedule from 2012. Best google could find me. .. Turns out the races didn't start until well after 12:30.

    Re: NHMS Marketing

Benign neglect is probably the best phrase I would use in terms of attempting to generate any buzz for our series. A year or two ago I actually offered, for free, to develop some marketing material and strategy for them to take or leave as they saw fit. My offer was courteously declined, stating that they already had a marketing department. *shrugs*

I remember hearing somewhere that NASCAR provides something like 90% of their gross annual revenue and everything else fills that remaining 10%. I had also heard that LRRS was the second highest so even if we assume we are say, 2% of their annual income, that nets us 2% of their marketing efforts. This is likely enough to develop a schedule, provide some feedback at meetings and to key personnel, and put a banquet together. It is just simple business.

Could they, in theory, generate more revenue with a more aggressive (or any) marketing campaign for LRRS? Sure. The simple fact is that those labor hours/dollars are better spent marketing for NASCAR which will yield a higher return on their investment. Plain and simple.

Business sucks when it interferes with a sport that I love, but this is standard business practice at work.

    Re: NHMS Marketing

I hear what you're saying, and peeps have been saying that for as long as I can remember. But like Pete says, it's all about the dollars. They get very little (if any REAL) revenue from small club events, thus they'll put little effort into promoting it. Since it's first Winston Cup event until now, that track has been ALL about NASCAR. Unfortunately, they have a number of GREAT events there throughout the year that no one ever knows about because of pretty much what you describe. It almost seems that they have no desire to grow other events there...

One thing they are very willing to do is give you a giant stack of brochures if you tell them you'd like to disperse them at work/bike nights/local businesses/etc. We are our best friends when it comes to getting the word out. There are people who live IN LOUDON that don't know motorcycles race there. tell everyone.

Ran across a guy who'd won the Penguin TD raffle at bike night a few weeks back. He had the choice between a NH and a CT day. He asked me "Isn't NH just an oval? That sounds kind of boring."

I did a state inspection for a guy with a Mustang GT500. He was looking through my LRRS 2013 photo book from Marco (I leave it out for customers to look at while they wait) and he asked what track it was at. I said NHMS. He has paid to run his Mustang there on the oval. Didn't know they let bikes on there or that there was a road course. I showed some of my race pics, got the usual "You're insane" response. He also asked if we only race during bike week. Arrgghh.

A little while back, NHMS posted an old aerial shot of the track on Facebook when it first opened as NHIS. Someone commented: "Does the road course still exist?"

Plain and simple they really could care less about us.( at least thats how it feels ) We don't generate enough revenue for the track to care. Look what they are trying to do to The Larry Lap or not do should I say. The rumor is next year it will be no more. Its a travesty in my opinion if that's let to happen.

What is the relationship between LRRS and NHMS?

NHMS owns and operates LRRS. LRRS is sanctioned by CCS as an affiliate.

They won't, it isn't fiscally viable unless they are able to defer the cost of it across multiple revenue streams. What I *DO* wish they would do, is let us help them promote the series on a volunteer basis. I am too old to move to Europe where people actually give a shit about 2 wheeled motorsports so we need to change the culture HERE and NOW.

Are there any club level motorsports that draw a sizable crowd? What's the pricing for spectators, I can't even find it on the NHMS webpage lol.

    Re: NHMS Marketing

There are crowds when there are racers.

My suggestion would be to get the grids flush. There are spectators that inevitably tag along with the racers. It will take time but the crowd will build from there.

Do a color code wrist band system for a 1 day, 2 day and 3 day pass with appropriate fees ($10, $15 and $20) so there is no confusion.....such as in my most recent visit where I paid $25 for Friday only and had people tell me it shoulda been $15. Simple shit like that can easily be fixed and is a turn off at the gate.

No, Friday should be free. Friday isn't racing.

Single day infield pass is $15 (good for Saturday or Sunday).
    Weekend infield pass is $25.

Getting in after the track goes cold is free, as long as you aren't camping (there are extra fees for camping, I don't know what they are).

Unfortunately the gate rarely knows these rules (I don't know why they don't know).

Motor cross and arena cross specifically is the only two wheeled sport Americans enjoy. And even that is so low in attendance and revenue...

Also don't forget that we take advantage of a lot of benefits that come with NASCAR.
Aka some of the best facilities, maybe in the nation idk.

Scoring board, huge sitting area, clean bathrooms and showers, a massive infield. A great scoring and timing system.

I'm at NJMP and let me tell you it sucks comparing to NHMS. Track is great don't get me wrong. But everything else is a joke. And that's because I'm spoiled from nhms. And it's not lrrs that brings that money. It's nascar.
