Note for all Formula 300 riders

LRRS made a change that involves a name change to a class for 2016, so I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention before you think about entries for 2016.

Kawasaki is now paying contingency money for the Ninja 300 in two classes in 20016: 500 Supersport and UL Thunderbike. We already have 500 Supersport, but UL Thunderbike does not exist. When we looked at the CCS UL Thunderbike rules, our F300 rules were quite different (most notably excluding the R3 and RC390). Since the 300 class is growing and we did not want to upset the riders who already made the investment in a motorcycle based on our class structure, we came up with the following solution.

    • Formula 300 Challenge will be renamed UL Thunderbike
    • The rules for UL Thunderbike at NHMS are NOT the CCS rules, they are the LRRS F300 rules
    • Riders who compete in UL Thunderbike can go to Daytona and race ONLY if they have a 300cc bike that fits the CCS rules (this is the only concession we had to make to make this work)

We felt this was the best call at this point, since this is what all the F300 competitors were expecting anyway. There is no real down side and the UL Thunderbike (and 500SS) riders are now eligible to win $500 per weekend between the two classes.

    Eric,

What year bikes are eligible for contingency? Not that it matters to me because I'm a Novice, but I didn't see that info anywhere.

So, get a bike and start dropping those times. While you're a nov/am see if Bridgestone does contingency for the class and rack up some bonus monies that way in the mean time?

Not sure if Sav was trying to link to the contingency page for clarification-https://www.kawasaki.com/racing/team-green/contingency
or suggesting you buy a new bike.

Re: Note for all Formula 300 riders

Kawasaki is supporting all the LRRS events by paying two classes on 2015-2016 bikes. Penguin also has something new in the works for 2016, and we'll be making a full blown announcement once all the pieces are in place. It will be an opportunity for Formula 300 racers to compete for money, and the purse will be open to all competitors on all brands. Here is what we know for sure right now.

Penguin is going to have 3 dates at Canaan in 2016. These will be 2 day events, either Saturday-Sunday (June) or Sunday Monday (July & August), with the potential of adding Saturday if the demand is there. The track is now 50% longer than it was at our test event last season, and the track is getting air fence and the other things needed to make the venue safe for competition. On the Sunday of these events, Penguin is going to be running NESBC (New England Sport Bike Club) "races" as part of the track day. If any of you have done beer league ski racing, you'll get the idea. They are races - scored and (hopefully) timed with transponders, and there will be awards for both the winners and "losers". This is all about fun, and there will be team "championships" and a fun gathering at the end of the day for everyone before heading home. Think of it as a half-step between a track day and LRRS. "Race" your bike at a track day level and get a feel for what it's really like without all the preparation of a race bike.

Together with these NESBC events (which are not open to licensed racers) will be a couple of races for licensed riders, both specifically for small bikes and aimed to give the riders who get into the sport via NESBC a logical next step that eventually brings them to LRRS. The two classes will be Formula 300 and motard, and both will have a purse payout. More details to follow.

Other than being down on power to the 450 motards why wouldn't his 250 fit here?

I don't know where that quote came from? This thread is about Formula 300/ULTB, neither of which a KX250F is legal for with LRRS.

Ah, I see that post now. I'm under the impression Isaac was claiming to want a 300 for the LRRS classes, I could be wrong.

Re: Note for all Formula 300 riders

This add-on is obviously not LRRS, it's a Penguin thing that we will be running at our Canaan events. It does provide another venue for Formula 300 class riders to ride that should be a ton of fun. There will also be a motard class, and a 250 is just fine If you want to ride it. It should be a lot of fun.

We are aiming to develop this half step program that gives riders who want to try racing on a less serious level no excuse not to try it. We then thought adding the two small bike classes (300 and motard) was a logical next step from there. We just want to build the sport as much as we can, and friendly competition (especially when it's fun and we hang out after for a bit) really brings people together.
