Thats Daytona and the gap is so wide because Eric is on a privateer Suzuki 750 Supersport Bike and Mladin is on a Factory Superbike. The time differences between factory guys and privateers were greater back then because the factory bikes were so much better than what the privateer had. Add in 3.5 mile (I think) Daytona with both bankings its not even close.
At Loudon when Mladin did the 1.09.5, I did a 1.12.8 on a 600.
Yes Walls do suck...lets not hit any at any speed.
AMA will never come back and race at NHMS on the current track..it would take a completely new track outside of the nascar oval. The room and the paving wouldnt be that big of a deal... but the facilities would be. Having grandstands, food vendors bathrooms etc, to support the event would be big dollars.
Saxman You need to get out more! haha . While I like having Loudon and racing in our backyard AND I dont want to see it go away ... it isn't my favorite track.
Road America, VIR & Barber are my favorites.... picture this, Road America - 4 miles, 3 - 6th gear straightaways, 2 of those straightways end at a 90degree 2nd gear corner, a looooooooooooong carosel turn which you are on your knee for ever on the edge of traction.... some other slow stuff........ now that is a real road racing track!
Ok who is gonna buy a big rig or two so we can all pack up and road trip during the season?
Im with Doc. A carousel turn dragging knee all while being on the edge of traction? That makes me all hot and bothered.
Johnny, Scott,
I heard from the medical staff that Bob had to work VERY hard to get the Quaker/Shakers to allow construction of the new heli-pad.
A.) Is this true?
B.) Do yo guys have any input as to how difficult it will be for major track development as the new owners want?
No idea on the heli-pad, but there was a good seven years of litigation before the last expansion of the grandstands began.
This will be very interesting to say the least. If you read up on the whole deal when Bruton began building a drag strip down in Concord, NC, it's obvious that he doesn't take very kindly to opposition. I suppose that we would need to see exactly what changes they have in mind and watch what happens.
Agreed.
When I was told the new management would have problems and may be delayed, I laughed and said "After seeing and hearing the new owner speak, I bet there a D8 bulldozers knocking down the cinderblock pee-in-a-trough bathrooms right now!"
It will be interesting. As a rider, I hope to see improvements to the road course.
