Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
At least we don't have to "fax" our entries in two weeks beforehand and then not only pay more for late entries, but also get 2nd wave, row 12 grid position because of late entries.
Feel better?

Did you remember to charge your transponder?

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
So, Round 1 I registered first day the system was open. I registered and picked "pay at the track" because I prefer to pay with monies rather than credit cards.
When Reg opened I went to pay. They tried to charge me late fees. I said no, I preregistrered. They said, but you didn't pay. I said that isn't required, the rulebook says that I have to preregister, which is different than pre-pay. I picked up a rule book and read what it said. They eventually agreed with me, per the rules.
They intentionally removed the pay at the track option. This isn't about planning for how many will be in the races. This is about keeping monies for longer times. They've removed the option to pay with cash unless you register late, which means they are giving up credit card fees (3% is standard).
For me... It's significantly easier to pay with cash. The only option for that now is to pay late fees.

You're weird.
I even get cash back if I use my card.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
Agree. I'm weird. Wifey doesn't know what I spend if it's cash.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
I'm betting they push for pre-reg for some of the same reasons trackday orgs do.
Commitment(you've paid, now you're not gonna wake up morning of and decide it's too hot/cold/wet/cloudy/humid)
Logistics(pre-reg cuts down on lines at registration, speeds up the process at the track)
Both of those things would be nullified if they allowed us to actually pay via cash on the day of. I'd also prefer to pay cash, but I do get why it's not really an option for them(and unlike TTD/etc, they aren't directly connected to the financials enough to want to save the 3% in fees).
Jason, not sure if you knew, but you can pay by check(or money order?) by mailing it in to arrive prior to the pre-reg deadline.
I have been told by LRRS reg staff that they also want pre-reg to get an idea of grid sizes, but as far as I can tell they've never acted on that information in advance of an event(nor needed to), so I'm not sure I buy into that reason.
EDIT: I seriously doubt it's a diabolical plan to screw anyone over, and I also doubt they're all that interested in collecting interest on a few grand for a week.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
or, you know, you could pre reg before you leave the track. OR, or, you set an alarm on your phone.

Nope... But I did do 3/4 of a track day on Sunday before realizing that it was still attached to my motorcycle.

Mine only comes off to get charged.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
Putting more people on the grid is the goal (in my mind). Anything that helps that, allowing late reg, cash at the track, last minute back of the grid additions are all good from my perspective but that stuff can be challenging. No diabolical plan, just complacency in the whole, "that's how it's always been" thing that we all get sucked into from time to time. Take my money 30 minutes before a race, pencil me onto a grid sheet (last spot open) and call it a day - not an option currently (I guess that means we're a cash heavy club?). A race should cost as little as possible without a floating fee, who cares if someone changes their mind at the last minute and backs out? This isn't a hostage situation, it's club racing. Open the avenues for more fish to land in the net with ease. Seems like simple stuff when you pop off on a forum, I'm sure there are challenges to overcome to make it possible.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
The late fee deters me from adding a race should I feel the need on the day of. That's what I was contemplating for this round. There are 2 additional races on Sunday that I'm not sure if I would be physically able to do so I didn't sign up for them. I'm already doing 2

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
I don't think you can add races day of any more.

I never take mine off besides to charge it.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
I also don't see it as a late fee. I think it's an early registration discount.

That's how you train a customer. All sorts of businesses do it, eventually customers wise up and move on to a business that doesn't or simply get disillusioned.

100% agree.

You can, but there is a morning cutoff(8:45am?). It is clearly documented on the daily schedule.

Successful businesses train customers, and doing so makes customers experience more efficient while not costing the business additional effort to no effect. :D
I do understand the theory behind what you're saying...but in the 7 years I've been a participant with LRRS, I've yet to see people actually stop racing because of the organization(not counting the ones who say "I'm done because of the extra $8 charge for this" but really mean "I've been thinking about getting out anyway and this is a good excuse.")
I've also seen plenty of positive changes in that time; track improvements, streamlined registration, new race classes, faster tech, etc.
Regardless, I didn't mean to contribute to this thread becoming just one more "OMG let's change LRRS" discussion...those are best saved for February/March when returning racers are all fired up, or May when new racers realize they've figured out how to make everything 1000x better 3 weeks after their rookie race. :D
(I'll remind Pete personally next round to be sure this doesn't happen again. I encourage each of you to do the same. Repeatedly. Using any and every communication method you have to reach him)

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
There has to be a way to make my iPhone send him an automated reminder every day. I think the greater challenge will be to have the automated reminder text include a different vulgar photo each day.

I kinda disagree. That rule was there way before I was in the picture. If it was a problem I shouldn't have played in the first place.
I do agree with the whole do whatever fills the grids but there is nothing unreasonable with late payment fee/early discount. They exist in almost every industry

Automation is my specialty. We'll make this work.

Re: "Ohai, Pete. Forgot to pre-reg?"
Pretty sure they don't charge your card until a day before the event anyways.

I do miss the "pay at track" option, though.

There's an app for that.
