    Pick DBs next bike!

Well my wonderfully caring teammate told me next year I need to take off the diaper and race a big boys bike, and I dunno what I should look for.

The way I see it, and my thoughts
SV (Petes afraid of me, so I dont want to make him buy a new bike again)
Motard (Im not much of a maintenace person)
600 (Expensive, Im a big pussy)
Stick with the EX (Only one class I'm remotely competetive in, but its real cheap)
Minis (No classes for my KLX)

So really, my only choices are the SVs and Motards. Id love a tard, but Im worried about the maintenance, its enough trouble for me to change my oil, how much week to week maintenance is involved?

    Motard

I was a little anal with maintenance with my last YZ450 and it still wasn't as bad as some make it out to be.
*Oil change before every race weekend (they only hold a bit over a quart so it doesn't break the bank) I change the filter every other oil change.
    *Adjust the chain
*Put fuel in it and ride

    What am I forgetting?

Depending what brand bike you get, valve checks/adjustments...if it's a Yamaha don't waist your time because they will be in spec

I voted for the SV.... Mostly because it was the first choice.

Now I got 0 motorcycle racing experience.. BUT from what I have ridden on the road and what I have read about NHMS I would go for the SV650.

If you're not even thrilled about changing oil I say no to motard...the sv's that are setup nice seem to move awesome around the track. Besides that, personally I want a motard for next year
*edit...ok ya motards rule and you should get one to race haha

I went with Motard, So I can race it too. In all Honesty You really get a kick out of your street tard, I think You are just moving in that direction anyway.

And yes you owe me a race on it.

    Re: Pick DBs next bike!

    CRF or YZF motard.

    Keep it stock.
Change oil every race weekend (takes about 10 minutes and even I can do it)
    Ride it.

Proof in the pudding? JayRoot races a bonestock (engine) CRF every year and does just what I outlined above. That's it. Jay HATES maintenence and he's dropping 18's and 19's all day long. Motards also don't burn tires much. You can run two fronts a whole season and about one rear per weekend if you are moving. Two weekends per rear if you are around 25's easy.
