    Re: Project: Moto Ranch

Ok so I took the morning to go ride the adjacent property. Did a bit of pulling larger downed trees off of the trail, then I picked one of the loops and ran it about 25-30 times. Most of the trail has ~12" ferns growing on it so I figured I'd get started on chewing it up. It's a nice flowing loop, 2nd-3rd gear with a couple of sharp switch backs. Awesome time, I just need to ride it more.

Awesome, thanks. I'm going to shelf it until next year, there's quite a lot of site work I have to do before I can start on the track. Quite a bit of tree work, rock removal, then a number of bonfires. I can't do the bonfires until October per town regulations. I may get started on it this fall before the ground freezes though.

Right now I'm pretty happy being able to jump out on the the property next door and ride.

I'm into a full on honey hole now. I have about 10 miles of trail open, 2 loops ready to ride, and with a few more machete sessions, there will be 5 loops with 15 miles to ride.

It looks like there was a big time trail network here previously that hasn't been rode in 10 years.

I believe I'm going to shoot for a Sunday ride this weekend. Have to go to church in the morning but I'll be home by 10:30. I'll post up in the dirty thread once I finalize.

Also, a lot of you guys have my number. Shoot me a text if you want to come down and ride on weekday evenings depending on baby schedule. I'm usually home shortly after 5. Friday evening sessions with beers, grill, and fire following have gotten pretty popular.

I need to grab a new throttle housing. I pulled the duct tape and zip ties off a while ago and it crumbled into about 10 pieces.

    Re: Project: Moto Ranch

Went out and tracked everything this evening. The loop at the bottom left I've had going for a while. The top left I cut in this weekend, it was existing bit overgrown. The stuff over to the right is my next project. First, connect the two legs. Then connect the left leg back to the upper left loop. If you see the mini loop in the top right, it's a nice section of ledge I'm making several lines up and down for a playground.

sweet! have you tried going back in time with the Google Earth app? that's what i did when i was re-burning in ancient trail behind our hood. went back 10 years or so and looked during the fall months. might be handy in finding some connectors. i was able to patch a loop this way.

Just gave it a try on desktop. Not a lot of dead foliage images so far, but I can pick some of the stuff up I've been riding. Great tip, I had no idea you could do that. I'll spend some more time with it and see what I can plot out.

    Re: Project: Moto Ranch

Another couple of weeks Scottie. Liam was about 4-5 weeks old before I attempted to start doing anything selfish again.

I went out for a hike east of the creek last night, there were a few spots I needed to bring the saw to. It was my first time on foot back there and after walking through I'm not entirely enthused with continuing to ride that section. Almost all of the trail is very close to back yards. I knew there was a development going in there, but there are a few properties I didn't realize were there.

I'm going to focus on developing a few more loops on everything west of the creek. It's still an awful lot of land and the only neighbor is a single house at the edge of the northwest loop - I spoke to them and they're cool.
I'll make a connector from the creek up to the northwest loop, then make some more lines that will create a series of mini loops.

    Re: Project: Moto Ranch

Here's a quick sketch of where things will end up over the next several weeks. Blue lines indicate trails to be cut.

The long trail that parallels the creek will be the toughest. Foliage is pretty thick down there near the water. Traveling west out of the creek is a decent slope, so the second parallel trail to the creek will be off camber. Then I just want to add some connectors so I can ride in many configurations.

Obviously none of these trails will be dead straight, I'll be picking my way around obstacles (or over!) as I cut. There's already a few decent log crossings and boulders to play on. I do want to get some faster sections though. It will speed up as it's bedded in more, but it's hard to imagine getting faster than 3rd gear right now.
