    Question for Trailer Dwellers...

For those of you that sleep in your trailer during the track season, is your trailer insulated? If not, how cold is it at night at the beginning and end of the season? Is a sleeping bag enough or do you have some sort of heater?

Also, interested to hear from those that do have insulation.

I'm contemplating insulating my trailer, but am hesitant to tear down my brand new trailer. It's all so nice and new, with beautiful caulking and what not. So, if sleeping in there without insulation isn't a big deal I think I'll keep it as is. I could still sleep in the Pilot during real cold nights (which I did all last season anyway).

I was also considering just insulating the roof and letting the 3/4 ply be the insulation for the sides.

    Any thoughts/experiences are appreciated.

    Thanks.

Get a good sleeping bag or a woman, although I prefer the latter. :

Mine is uninsulated and I run a small electric heater when it is cold and a fan when it is hot.

Works great... although they frown on cords across the road if you are in the garages.

Same as Doc, an uninsulated trailer and electric heater and/or fan. I pit out in turn 1a for racing so cords across roads aren't an issue then and I've never been hassled about it on a track day.

If you have a finished interior dont bother tearing it apart. It's a real PIA and ya dont really need the insulation. I've been doing that for 4 seasons now, no prob.

    Re: Question for Trailer Dwellers...

My camper is insulated and like the others, still run a heater, fan and whatnot when it is cold out...

on the flip side though, i also tented fror years (no insulation) and got away also with just the same small heater and fan setup. biggest thing is that the heater runs all night in a tent/ non insulated trailer, so no big deal, it is plenty ot take the bit out of the air.

If it's a standard utility trailer some of my friends have gone medieval. They used to put tapestries on castle walls to help insulate them.

They buy quilted cargo blankets (used by movers, sold by Lowes, UHaul etc) and tack them up on the walls.

Insulate the roof and get a heater, you will be fine. Don't bother with the walls

Good point. If you were really concerned, some blue foam insulation would be easy to tack up to the roof.

    Re: Question for Trailer Dwellers...

Great, thanks for the experiences/thoughts. It is a standard enclosed trailer with 3/4 ply on the walls.

I think I'll grab a quality heater (and/or make sure my woman is there every weekend to supply necessary heat )...if heat seems to be escaping too quickly, I'll insulate the ceiling and go from there.

    Thanks again.

    Re: Question for Trailer Dwellers...

I insulated the walls and ceiling in mine w/ 1" and 1.5" hard board insulation. Its not that hard; I wanted to upgrade from the 3/8" wall ply anyways so I had to open it up anyways. It does seem to help a bit both with cold and hot temps (trailer sitting in the sun will get hot). But even a small heater will heat up a trailer quickly regardless of insulation, so I wouldn't worry about it much.

I've only rocked a heater once (Oct?). A couple times I've slept in the trailer when it was 40* w/o a heater...not a big deal. Make sure you do keep some air moving in the trailer - they will sweat a lot if temp difference is high.
