For those with quick shifters, do you use it from 1st to second?

I know that I have been told in the past not to use the quick shifters between 1st and 2nd gear but I have spoken to just afew guys that they do in fact use there quick shifters off the line down to turn 1. I know that it would def help me if I could use it but at the same time i dont want to do any possible damage to myself or the bike. So what's your opinion/theory?

I don't have (and have never had) a quickshifter so maybe I'm missing something here... but once the quickshifter is installed how could you choose to "use" vs "not use" it during riding?

My understanding is that a light touch on the shifter cuts the spark, so any time you touch it, you're using it. It's not like it's a separate control/lever for quickshifter than normal shifter...

Whom ever told you this should hide in shame .....LOLOLOL

No, they are used from start to finish....I used it from the hole shot to checker flag. Thats why you have it and why would you skip the 1st to 2nd??? its why you have it.

I didn't because it would catch neutral sometimes instead of second. That is the reason not to quick shift the first gear change as far as I knows.

If it's adjusted correctly then it shouldn't catch neutral...

If you got 'em, smoke 'em.....so to speak.

Depends on the bike and the programming on the QS.

If the QS cuts spark for too short, it can grab N.

If the QS cuts spark for too long, you're wasting valuable centimeters.

I also set mine so that it activates at a certain RPM. That's what I use for the 1-2 shift.

I used mine from start to finish. Generally you set them up to operate at a minimum rpm so you don't accidentally activate it in the pits. If you don't currently have one, you will pick up a little time with one that works properly.

Although I like mine a lot and prefer to have it, with only 4 upshifts per lap, I didn't see any difference in my lap times. If you're upshifting more I can see there being more benefit.

Ideally you want different shift cutout durations based on what gear you're in (given the rpm drop between gears) If you have a setup that implements that definitely use it for 1 to 2. If you have only one delay and youve optimized it for higher gear changes it may be too short for 1 to 2.

I use mine for all shifts.
Like Pete said thought at NHMS I really doubt it makes a difference on an SV/EX. Other bikes probably benefit more from it in our track.
In bigger tracks it makes a difference.

My bike ce from the factory with shift assist. It's a bit harsh from 1st to second atanything less than 8 grand. I've never had a false shift.

It's inactive below a certain RPM.

I launch, preload the shifter, it reaches that minimum RPM and activates, cuts ignition and shifts.

Interesting.... I'm confused about one thing though....is that minimum set below your "normal" shift RPM though?

If it's set below that RPM, and you pre-load the shifter, does that mean you short-shift 1-2 every launch?
Alternatively, if it's set to activate at the normal shift point, does that mean your quick-shifter doesn't work if you short-shift (maybe only for 1-2 if you can set a different minimum for each gear?)

Yup. The min is my "short shift" RPM.

If I want to shift below that, I clutchless upshift the conventional way.
