Some of you are aware that I've recently purchased my first ever sport bike.
I'm hoping / planning on doing a couple track days on it next year.
I found some reasonably priced used track plastics on fleabay, and am working on a deal with the seller. See link above. Am I being a complete idiot?
Most new plastics seem to be in the $500 range. Remembering that I'm not a racer, but might use some plastics for track days is this stoopid?
Why would you ask US to talk you out of it?? I've paid more for less, and it's nicely painted. Dooo eeet!!

I'm nodding approvingly over here.
(And a little frickin' jealous too.)
Eh, I will try and talk you out anyway...
What's wrong with the plastics on the bike now? Are you already riding hard enough that you anticipate putting the bike down? Is your self preservation instinct that under control already? And can you part with the cash? How much of another day at the track would that money buy?
So yeah, basically doooooo eeeeeeit!
Buncha damn enablers...
I guess, to be more specific, is this a stoopid price to pay for some plastics? I think I have an answer to that. I just don't trust my judgment.
That's exactly what I need. Even if I thing I'm right I need tons of help in talking me through things...
honestly, not much. https://picasaweb.google.com/1128325...eat=directlink
I've been working on the bit of the upper that is busted off, but I think that's just about me. I don't think that fixing it's actually required.
For me, this is 2 different questions... Answering questions 1 (related to "already") I'm an idiot. I've never even ridden this bike, so I have no idea.
Answering question 2, about putting the bike down...
Yes. I expect that it will be put down. Will it be put down this year? Don't know. I am aware of the fact that the more time I spend on the track the higher the probability of me putting the bike down. I'm OK with that. That's a big part of the reason that I decided to not use the 'wing as my primary track bike. It has limitations as a track bike, but it also has significant ramifications as a track bike if there is an incident.
Good question. I'm not sure I know the answer. Historically I'm a bit "tentative" as a rider. Crashing (and the basic concept of crashing) has terrified me. I'm not sure which direction this will move me in.
So, at this point, this set of plastics is basically less than a track day.
Wright or wrong, my entire argument for purchasing the CBR was based on the fact that crashing on the 'wing (and believe me, that, under no circumstances is crashing a wing cheap) would be less than the ~1300 I spend on the "sport bike" would save me money...
Now the problem, for me, becomes if it makes sense to spend money on "track stuff" vs. just allowing my "cheap" track bike to crash and which make sense. General rule seems to be that a set of plastics are ~$500. If that is off, I'm certainly willing to crash the street plastics that came with the bike.
Just buy them![]()

Seriously... This is killing me.Originally Posted by nhbubba;1253719....\
The fact that that I have a sport bike sooooo has nothing to do with my capability, but I completely get it...
I must figure out how to do a track day with 'bub's again next year, regardless of everything else.

Aaaaaah.. I'm just funnin' you.
Wait 'til you see my shiny new aluminum shock on the 'strom. Your silly yellow sportbike is gonna sooooo be in my dust.. yo.
I'm game. It's like I've been telling everyone (except the wife), I'm good for at least one day this year. Just not anytime around the weekend of Aug 4.
Welcome to the party, pal! We were gonna buy t-shirts.. but wound up pissing all the money away on legos video games car parts chicks beer motorcycle parts.
This forum sucks, doesn't it?!
2 weeks layin' off the beer, then one night with 3 bottles and here I am going buck wild with the like button. WTF yo.
Those are for an F4 not an F4i. Unless you want to deal with the shit involved with getting those mounted my suggestion is to pass.
The only direct swap is the fender while the rest of it is a direct headache.
EDIT: Just noticed your sig says F4 but I coulda swore you at one point said you had an F4i...![]()

I am pretty sure he has an F4. Late 90's I thought. I was sure it was carb'ed.
Mine is an F4. I do have a few F4i bits for it... Front wheel, shock, rearsets, side cover, so I have to somewhat keep track of what's what, but "mostly" it's an F4 (haven't planned a body swap yet, and may not need to if I have track plastics? )
Some things are interchangeable. Some things are interchangeable with allowances. Front wheel must be "complete" to interchange, for example. Body can be swapped. Side covers will mount right up. Front requires front mount to be changed (and I think maybe the instruments panel). Rear requires entire subframe to be changed. I get lost with all of the possibilities after that.
Anyway... bought for $200, shipped. I'm still a loooser![]()
Congrats, I think they look awesome!

There's truth and charm and beauty
And strangeness everywhere
The closer we examine
The more there's nothing there
$200 shipped is an awesome deal because most of that is for shipping anyway
