Penguin Basic vs. Track Experience Question...

Ok, so I suppose this deserves a new thread. I will be doing a Penguin day at some point, and am deciding between the "Track Experience" and the "Basic Course." It is my understanding that after getting a race license, you must complete your first race within the year. Is that correct? Is the race license good for other tracks too, such as tracks on the West Coast? What are the limitations? Just trying to decide which one-day school to do. Which has more track time? I do want to race eventually, but am not sure when life/finances will allow.

    Re: Race License

You will be licensed for all CCS and ASRA races across the nation with the only difference being that LRRS is the only place in the nation with a white plated, red numbered Novice class. The rest of the nation uses the yellow plates/ black numbers to otherwise designate Novice.

Most other race orgs will recognize your CCS/LRRS license for at least one event too as a bonus.

lauren, i can shed some light on your question, as i am currently going through this now.

when you complete the basic course, you have 1 year to do your rookie race or do the advanced class. otherwise, your basic certificate will expire & you would need to retake the basic course if you wanted to get your race licence.

since i took the basic course on 10/2/09, i'm signing up for the advanced class on 10/1/10. then i'll have another year to do the rookie race.

No, you're dead on, we're just breaking your balls for still not actually doing a race and getting your license.

Why don't you save the $280 for the class, and register for a couple races, do two practices sat morning, the rookie race and 2 races on saturday, two practices and two races on sunday for the same price?

Because he plans to do his rookie race as a expert? Maybe the Dash For Cash? He is thinking big.

Then he is probably not really read for the advanced course either. Its going to be information overload. For guys that have been racing it is still info overload.

Im with Ryan on this one. Do the rookie race. Get some time under your belt actually racing. Its not even close to what you guys are doing at the trackdays. After you get a few weekends under your belt then consider doing the advanced course. Even at that it is still going to be a lot of info to absorb.

I believe the track time is the exact same. When I did the pro school there were TD experience riders there at the same time, and it was TD exp, basic, advanced rotating between the track and the classroom.

The race license is a CCS/ASRA race license. You can use it to race CCS anywhere, you just have to run AM style (yellow/black) # plates since NV does not exist outside LRRS.

However, you don't actually get your race license just from the school. You also have to complete your rookie race and register for an actual race as a novice.

Just trying to stop you from wasting money.

Ok well then Ill answer the important questions. If youre planning on racing do the race school. The trackday experience is like a track day. It has passing rules. Its geared to getting people on the track. The racing school is that. A racing school. They show you the race line and teach you the race line. Then they let you on track after its disected to let you have at it. Pass anywhere. Inside or outside. Its fun. They just tell you to be sure you have the pass before you make it. Its more fun in afternoon practice when there are faster guys coming around you.

They both have the same amount of time on track. If youre going to race in the future do the race school.

It was my bad... what I said was a pretty obvious idea so I probably should have assumed he had a reason to do what he's planning on doing, which he does. No need to convince him otherwise guys.

    Drop the shoulder and head

Just lookin at your avatar. Body position is key.

But yeah do the race school get license and then sign up for one race. Then you can do test and tune days for 150 instead of whatever a trackday costs, and you can race too!!!!

so a LRRS novice is just like a Canadian amateur.

Or an "anywhere but LRRS amateur". And yes, our licenses even say AM on them.

I was just talking about colors. In Canada, white plate with red numbers is an amateur. no yellow plates up there as far as I know. I think its something about them liking snow too much, and not the yellow kind.
