How much does your race number mean to you?

How much does your race number mean to you?

Just something for all you racers or players of sports..
I had the same number for 14 years. After thinking incorrectly that I was going to retire from this sport (Hobby) I lost that number.. been racing with a good number but never felt like it was mine.
Now after begging, pleading and good timing I have it back.. just got the word from LRRS And I am more then pumped! I am sure its worth at least 2 maybe 3 seconds a lap for sure.. Don't know why I feel this way but I do.
Anyone else feel this way? Its just a number after all. but crap it feels like I am back..
Need to talk about something other then supermarkets and Trump!

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

I took 969 because 666 wasn't available. When it became available, I was nervous switching numbers because I'm a little superstitious, but then thought I would eventually get a 2 digit and change anyways, so what's the difference.

The previous people to have 666 seemed to have problems with it, but I think it actually helped me. Then I went to 99 last year because 66 wasn't available for some reason I couldn't quite figure out. I did horrible last year. Not sure if that had anything to with it.

Looks like I got the 66 I've wanted for a couple years, so hopefully that coupled with a job change will make a difference this year.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

728 was really just a random choice when I started, but it certainly has become part of my "racer identity". So much so that I've never even really considered going for a 2 digit. I have occasionally raced as 202 and 871 when borrowing bikes. Never seems to affect my results. Hahaa.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

Started as 77 on pitbikes 'cause I'm not creative and chose the year I was born. When I went to LRRS I had to pick 3 digits, 771 was the first number starting with 77 available so... that's what I went with. I've now established 771 Racing as my identity, I'm not keen to loose the number.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

I borrowed my bosses bike to go racing my first time. His number was 311 so I chose 316 since it only required a little bit of electrical tape to modify. Little did I know that novices were supposed to have red numbers not black...

Someone took 316 when I took a year off so I grabbed 856 since it's my Dad's birthday.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

Mgiossi put down 329, 246 as his first two choices. I figured I'd put down 923 and 642 so we could have the same number forwards and backwards.
Well, he got 329 and I got 642.
Did my 3 years, but I would like to keep the 642 if I do get the chance to return to racing. Don't know why, but I've grown fond of it. Find myself smiling when I see it on a license plate etc etc.
So originally, it meant nothing to me, but after spending thousands of dollars to be associated with the number... I would be bummed to see someone else out there rocking the 642.

Mgiossi's was something about his grandfathers NYPD police badge number or something. Sissy.

The pits aren't quite the same without you and smutty gaying it up all over the place, topless. Same with Jim and Frenchy. Lol

I try to hold it down on my own, but my gayness just pales in comparison.

I had 609 since i started in 2014. I was eligible for a 2 digit this year and wanted 69, but it was taken, so I got 60. I regretted it instantly. Put back in for 609 this year, no idea if its available

Yup 329 is my grandfathers badge number. Never met him unfortunately but he was a badass and im very proud to have giossi attached to 329 again. When i see old pictures of him in uniform i always feel so honored to carry that on. Oll have 329 for as long as i race. I also miss seeing phill and the 642. When i see his number out in the world i still think about him and what a dick he is ;-* hahaha

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

I almost took 64 last year just to fuck with Shane. He said I should have, but nobody really wants to see that. It would be a sad day indeed to see "64" running a 1:24 lap time.

I think it's fucked up to take someone else's number, too. I cleared it with Shawn like 3 years ago to make sure he wasn't planning on coming back before asking for 66.

I had a small number plate so wanted 1's to fit. 151 was the available and and fit, now I don't want to change, for no good reason.

272 was my number in 2013... Lrrs informed me that they assigned two people the same number so for my rookie year I was 272x. Than was told I had to change... They gave me 772.
7 was my old hockey number and 2 is my lucky number

    My first bike was a 1978 Honda twin (2) => 782.
I fully admit that isn't very creative at all. Could have just as easily asked for a randomly assigned number instead.

I've grown to like the number. It's mine. It's weird how a race number becomes "yours".
