Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

My original number was a result of small number plates. anything with a 1 was great and 888 I was told not to get. So I ended up with 179. Raced that for a few years with good success. I was lucky enough to get 79 when I was eligible for a two digit. Raced that for a few years. I thought it was going to be hard to let go but when the time came and I knew I was done for a while it was actually much easier then expected. Some day I may try to reclaim it.

Money is probably the easiest part to over come. Time not so much with a 2 year old running around.

Not LRRS related but in my first year of NESC MX they assigned me 533, when I made amateur class (B nowadays), the current pres of the NESC went to the pres back at that time and said hey do you have any 2 digits open, he said yeah but if you can wait until next season you can have #3. So I took #3 the next year. Doesn't look to cool to see a single digit number in the back half of the pack

CCS elsewhere allows amateurs to have 2 digit numbers and doesn't have a novice class, so....

did you race MSC back in the day as well?

also dirt related ... i was #22 through my early 'career' as a hare scramble racer in FL, moved back north and started racing more MX ... had to run a three digit for C Class so i chose #203, CT area code ... went back to #22 for a while but Chad Reed stole my number so back to #203 i went still keep it on the bike for the rare occasions i 'race'.

No just Nesc and one Florida winter series. How dare Chad Reed take your number. That’s why we need a wall between here and Australia.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

Numbers I wanted were already taken so I grabbed 300 because it was what I weighed at the time and looked good on the bike. It grew on me and I renewed my license for a long time so I could keep it even if I wasn't necessarily racing that year. It will sadden me if I see someone else running it, not really sure why but it will. Strange how we can grow attached to a sometimes randomly chosen number.

I passed the new 666 this year in practice.... it was weird.

The number didn't treat homie very good, either. He crashed in a race and ended up going to the hospital. I had a bunch of people coming up to me thinking it was me.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

Regarding race numbers, how does everyone feel about the LRRS rules regarding how long a number, pretty sure it only applies to single and double digit numbers, can be kept by someone that isn't racing on a consistent basis any longer? Also, how about someone who didn't send in their renewal in time and someone else requested their number so they lost it.

Every year between renewal time and the first race weekend of the season I hear/see the complaints/posts about people losing their race number and being all grumpy about it.

    My opinion/s:

Losing the number because you no longer race enough to meet the requirements, there are only so many single and double digit numbers available and for some it is a goal to achieve that "status". If you aren't racing consistently any longer then you should let someone who is racing to the required level of the rule book use the single or double digit number, or start racing more.

Didn't renew in time and lost your number, oh well, everyone knows what the renewal deadlines are and if you can't get your act together and someone gets it then that is on you. This is especially true if the person doesn't even know you from Adam. If the person knows you then sure it could be considered a dick move but still the deadlines are pretty clear when the renewal packets are sent out.

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

It used to be easier to keep your number, by just scoring points every two years and renewing it every year. Now you need to be a more active member. And I agree with the new rules. I saw that my old number(48) was not used last year and jumped on it. I might have been the 1st one to send my application in! The deadlines for renewal are posted and it's your responsibility to make the deadline. If you want your number. If you realy want to keep your number it's simple- race score pionts and get your renewal in on time.

Agree to a point ..however losing your number after 2 years due to personal reasons when you still paid the license fees and in fact planned to run a season this year is a bit over the top ...

Re: How much does your race number mean to you?

    I concurre.

Seems stupid to allow someone to keep a number of they run one race a year. They are not active in that race community anymore and there are only so many 2 digit numbers.
