    race prep

Does anyone know where I can bring my bike to get it race ready? I live in CT close to Mohegan Sun casino. I dont have the tools to drill out all of the bolts that need to be wired (probably need some kind of jig and a drill press?), and would probably screw it up anyway . Thanks!

You can buy a cheap drill press for $100, and the safety-wire pliers are pretty cheap. As far as a jig goes, I just drilled holes in a 2X4, threaded the bolts in and then drilled them. I could help if you got the bike up here.

I am interested in getting new racers out on the track. I am more than willing to help you with bike prep and when you arrive at the track I will help you and make sure you are at the right places and at the right time and with the registration process. I have helped out quite a few new racers. And you can pay me by telling me that you just had the best weekend of your life.

You don't need a drill press.

If you have a vise and hand held drill you're all set. It will be a good way for you to get to know your bike as well. Always good to have some who knows what they are doing to help but not that hard to do yourself.

Buy yourself a shitload of cheap ass drill bits, take out the bolt, vise, a little oil, and drill away. Snap drill bit, swear a lot at said drillbit, replace and continue.

I think I used Ti bits but I think Cobalt ones also work well. I didn't drill the whole bike but did the basics and only broke 1 or 2 bits and it was entirely my fault. go slow and let the drill do the work. don't push too hard and force it, that's when the bits break. and I did mine on the bike.

I’ll add just one more thing to this … don’t forget to wear eye protection when drilling … because the trip to the emergency room to have the physician’s assistant dig out the shards of metal from your cornea with a needle is not too much fun ….

Worse yet is getting a head injury, needing an MRI and them being afraid to do it because there could be metal fragments in your eye

Yep, same thing, but mine was an MRI for a shoulder injury. They wouldn't take the hospital record's representations that all the metal shards were removed; before doing the MRI, they X-rayed my eyeball.
