    I like this post:

This included a medical release from my doctor stating I was mentally sound to compete at the Isla of Man Manx Grand Prix.

I wonder what the test is for that???

Re: How can you race TT Isle of Mann?

good quote on shipping the bike:

There were concerns about which method to ship the bike, and all the logistics that go with getting the bike from home to Douglas, Isle of Man. There is no direct way from here to there. First to a trucker in Connecticut, then to the exporter in New Jersey. Then by ship to Liverpool. And, another shipment to the dock in Douglas. Someone would then have to pick up the container and deliver it to the Paddock, also in Douglas. Then, I heard that the Manx Government was providing a container to up to 8 American racers' bikes free of charge both to and from the Island. Delivery to the Paddock. Another great relief, but now, where are the other racers? We all found each other, and in short order. My new issue was that all of the others who were going to the MGP this year were from the West Coast of the US. That meant that the container would be sealed and shipped from San Francisco.

it is actually nowhere near as I was thinnking in regards to cost.

if you have the will it is actually pretty attainable. i am even more confident now that I am talking to people who did it.

It is definitely obtainable, but the costs will come out of nowhere and rise. Just budget for more than you think!

Re: How can you race TT Isle of Mann?

I havent read the whole thread so im not sure if this has been answered already, just my take

I have wanted to run the TT since birth lol. I went 2 years ago not only to watch but get a genuine idea of how much it would cost me. I walked around the pits 75% of the guys there are small timers/club racers. You have 10-15 riders with the works the rest are regular joes. I made it a point to chat with a regular joe. He had the box truck, EZ up just like any guy from LRRS. He was from England and he said it cost him about $14K pounds total. Just my guess your looking at $20k on the conversion. then you gotta add your trip over there and shipping bike back and forth. Also I believe you need to ride the Manx GP at least one round to be even allowed to qualify for the TT. So to answer your question. Yes its stupid expensive, would i do it.....ABSOLUTELY.

also i met some aussies who had their bikes shipped over there..they need to send it out 3 months before hand to make sure it got to IOM in time.

Re: How can you race TT Isle of Mann?

I just did a expedia/orbitz search for Flight BOS - Isle of Man + hotel in the last week of Isle of Man for 2015.
Cost: approx 2.5 for 1 person (if you go alone) or around 1.8-2k(per person) for 2 people. It may be a good idea to just be a tourist for 2015 to figure out the racing logistics for 2016 ...

find Brandon Cretu on my fb. He's been doing it for like 4 or 5 years. I believe he started out as a real privateer and now rides for Splitlath Buell there and at the Macau GP. I know Hel is a good sponsor of his also. its gonna be a lot of work, wheelin and dealin, talking to many people but its possible.

also check out Amazon.com: One Man's Island: Mark Gardiner: Movies & TV
I haven't seen it but should give you an insight into what it's like.

Sav, I rent an office from a freight forwarder and customs agent, they have shipped bikes in the past to Europe for vintage events so have experience.
Also, perhaps more importantly, one of my good friends owns a tuning shop based in Ireland, he used to race in BSB and currently supports many racers. He will be able to put you in touch with the right people and maybe even arrange a ride (it may be cheaper to rent a bike than ship one??)
I think you need to buy me a pint or two while we chat!!

I think it would be awesome. Hell I will donate money to the cause if you decide to give it a try.

The Manx is still a big event -- there are thousands of fans there, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the big names run it. I believe Guy Martin did both Manx & IOM TT for a while.

Re: How can you race TT Isle of Mann?

If you can't make the IOM TT work, then the other two huge road races are the North West 200 and the Ulster Grand Prix. Both are in Northern Ireland which would make logistics a lot easier. I missed spectating at the NW200 a couple of years ago by a few days

I think the most realistic scenario now is Manx GP in 2016 and TT in 2017
