Ok, I've been around here long enough to remember the old "NESR Racing" banner. And came up a few times to see the well oiled machine that was NESR Racing, with fancy pits and dedicated mechanical support. It was a thing of beauty...
Seems that with the disappearance of it's founders, we have all these splinter groups taking up residence. Cheap Bastid Racing, MABE racing, DNF racing, Low Down Racing...the list goes on...and the point I'm trying to make is that we have so many more active racers on this site but somewhat more disorganized when the whole site raced under one banner.
Seems to me that with the number of racers on this site, we could benefit from pooling our resources a bit more. Not that people don't help everyone else out, they certainly do, I know that if I was in need of a tool or a part that I could go to any "race team" on this site and if they could help me out, they would.
But there's a number of "shared incidentals" like canopies, electricity, tools, experience, etc that I feel like we should resurrect the old "site racing" team and pool our resources a bit. Consider that we have probably 25-50 active racers who read and post on the site regularly. And a good 25-50 more that are considering racing next year. That's a good chunk of people right there.
If we could band together and form a "NESR racer support" team with our current and prospective racers, with each member contributing a fixed amount of funds (say $50 or $100, less than the cost of one or two race entries) that money could easily turn into $5000+ of common support money to purchase and make use of those fixed and permanent things that we racers need.
Tire changers. Canopies. Air compressors. Power outlets. In the end we're all racing for the win, but if we can pool a bit of spare cash and maybe a bit of time to help each other out, it seems to me that we could create the kind of "racer support team" that this site used to have.
I'm not saying NESR racing. I could give a fuck what we called it. But there was a tight-knit group of racers here in years past. We have a larger and loosely-knit group right now. I think we could benefit by uniting those groups under a single banner and all benefit from a small outlay of cash from each member.
What do you think? Am I talking crazy here? Post your thoughts...
