I'd have to go with the opposite... anyone that was about 0.5-1s faster. they provided the best incentive to improve.
I will say that I got a lot of enjoyment out of racing and beating some of the, now retired, ULSB racers that people I respect/look up to used to talk about as being the 'fast guys'...

I had my first taste of racing with Cooner this past weekend. I've finally gotten fast enough to hang with him.
In LWGP, I started ahead of him and he kept showing me a wheel up the front straight, but twice I close the door under braking into T1.
Then, in my usually stupid fashion, I hit a false neutral downshifting for T1 and he went right by me, pretty damned close I might add.
I went over to talk to him about the race in general and he acted like he was better than I am as a person. At the time, I hadn't heard anything positive or negative about him, but him blowing me off about a decent battle at the beginning of the race gave me the impression that I've now heard about from so many people.
Yeah, Joel Taylor was wicked fun to race with back in the old Hawk days.
A MAN they call Dollar Bill
Kevin Quinn
Pete Bisigni
and believe it or Not
Pete Gaborio Before he realized How Amazingly fast he is.

Honestly the list changes depending on who I am keeping pace with. I have had some great battles in perfect confidence with a lot of the folks here. Currently I would have to say Matt Calhoun is my favorite only because he is running a little bit faster and I know he is perfectly safe to run with. He may not feel the same though as I did a pretty stupid move last race weekend :-p
Riley Rodgers was a fav but he went and left me for the white plate guys :-p

We DID have some pretty good races together back in the day, didn't we?
There's really not a whole lot of people I HAVEN'T enjoyed riding with. The guys I didn't like racing with either gave it up or never progressed all that much.
In no particular order, here's just a SHORT list of some very talented and smooth riders that I've had the pleasure of riding with in close proximity (racing, track days & street):
Scott Mullin
Mark Dages
Brian Kent
Charlie Tarna
Tom Joyce
Brendan Guy
Daniel Carr
Chris Watt
Alex Dunstan
Clayton THEMUTHAFUCKINIGLU Girouard (those were the days!!! )
Oxx
Degsy
Ken Condon
Tony Iannarelli
Paul Duval
Graham Pattison
Tyler Henshaw
Gene Berrio
Jamie Kupernik
TLR MAN
RYE
BEET
Zombie
Bemused
Yes, that's the short list... I'd trust my life w/ any of those guys and more.

There's probably a shorter list of people I wouldn't trust.
But I've had some serious fun win lose or draw with a bunch of people:
Fucking Jersey
Pete
Jay
Degsy- only if he's on a fast bike though
Bergs -he and I have run nose to tail and side by side numerous times
There's plenty of racers that I don't necessarily know their names but I know I trust them.
When I start my KTM in the morning, rules are broken. Its inevitable...

We had great times Joel.
Tony that bastard. He beat me my first race by a wheel on that big Duc. Hate him for that and will never forget it. That BASTARD.
No just kidding.
We swapped positions 4 time that last lap. He just had more juice than me. Maybe If I did not attempt to highside myself and go thru the grass in T4 I would have had him. Ahhhh the memories.
Hes a fun one too.

Most fun I had racing was my last year. Seth, Dolla Bill, Jackie, we had some battles. Pretty much everybody I raced with as an AM was fun.

I like racing with anyone that has some brains and rides a good clean race.
KB
I hope so after the show he put on last weekend. Im sitting in my garage getting ready and he comes along into the garage behind me, tosses his bike on the ground, and in the process of picking it up almost takes out two people and a couple of bikes on stands. All I remember hearing is KB yelling at him to get the fuck out of his garage and then seeing the stunned look on Smuttys face. I dont need to see that shit. I wanted to hit him after that.
As for people I enjoy racing with. Im with Ox on this. The list of people I do not like racing with is much shorter and I havent seen him yet this year so I think we are all safe. My favorite people are the ones I can go up to after the race, download what happened, and then have a good laugh.
Can't say there is anyone I don't enjoy racing with. Haven't had any issues with heroes or anything silly.
If I had to name names, off the top of my head:
union (since the first day we rode at Tony's years ago)
ceo12384
Oxx
Pigman
Bubba Landry (this is before he got so fast one of his arms fell off)
Of course, the top LRRS Experts are always a pleasure to get lapped by and even though I may not be racing "with" them, they are always a good laugh when they do come by.
