    Racing Suit Cost

How much should I be expecting to pay for a decent one piece racing suit. I can't afford Vanson (Although I am going there tomorrow to look at their stuff), but I dont want something that will only last one lowside.

    $500 - $1500

The GP suit I have is nice, not too expensive either. It's held up great through 3 crashes so far.

I picked up a fieldsheer suit at Brockton Cycles for $350.00. No crashes yet but it is not bad at all. HesSo has the motogp kangaroo suit and that is about 5-10lbs lighter then mine and it didn't look to bad damage wise the other day when I saw it.

What do they run new Jay, like $900.00?

yeah, jay's suit is just shy of 900... i got my 2-piece alpinestars GPU stuit for under 600 shipped. they have a 1-piece version as well for the same price i believe.

you can pick up a suit that'll do the trick but won't last through too many offings (like 1 or 2) for under 400 bucks if you want or you can save up & get one that'll last a while. Mine's about middle - upper middle of the pack... it'll probably last through a few, but not as much as a high end suit.

    I use and recommend these

NOTE: Just checked their site and they are re-doing it. Basically, they sell from $650 and up, if I recall.

Sometimes you can get a custom suit from them for about the same as "off the rack" elsewhere

They are in Florida, but they have a sheet you fill out with measurements and send it.

I've done it 3 times with no fit problems.

(FYI... suits are VERY high quality... feel free to check mine out at a Track Day)

NewEnough.Com has the Teknic 2 pc Chicane like 160 something for the pants and under 280 for the jacket... And I think you can get some up-graded knox armour for like 35 bucks.. They have some 1 pc suits too..

No, if you're racing it's one piece only. Trust me when I say you don't want a 2 piece for this purpose. All manner of hell breaks loose occasionally. Zippers evaporate, seams bust open etc.

    Yo, brotha Hberry,

safety gear is NOT the place to try and save money.

You should call Peter Kates and ask his advice as well.

I'm not trying to skimp out and race with a mess suit or anything, just saying that I can't afford Vanson at the moment. Looking quickly at Newenough, what are peoples thoughts on this: http://www.newenough.com/teknic_ligh..._suit_page.htm

I searched all the forums for used stuff.
Got myself a 1 piece Joe Rocket suit for $200 that had a hole in the ass. Sent it to Barnicle Bill, he repaired that and a missing clasp for $80 bucks.

$280 bucks for my suit and then I paid $25 for Vanson pucks (eBay).

Not the BEST quality suit but figured it would last a few lowsides and would get me thru the season.

I recently found / bought a Dainese suit for $400 bucks. Used for 3 hours.

Seach around and you WILL find the deals...

Oh I also got a set of Alpinestar's SMX-3 boots for $70 (used, in great shape) and brand new Vanson gloves for $40 (from Vanson Factory Shop). Brand new Arai Quantum-f.. $280.

Workload for sale. Job sale possibility. Caretaker needed for housework and entertaining kids. I need some time back.

A steady job and a family has ruined many a good biker.

Jay: What happened to your gloves? I'm assuming you have the same ones I do. All black with carbon knuckles and shit.

Lucky I just got some free Dainese gloves..

SVRacer: You *can* run 2-piece leathers at LRRS but it's not recommended.

Pg. 24, section 5.1.4. of the 2005 CCS rulebook states, "Suits or pants and jacket of leather or Kevlar. Separate pants and jackets must be joined with snaps or zipper(s) to create the equivalent of a one-piece suit."

Pg. 22, section 4.0 of the 2005 LRRS rulebook states, "Pants and jacket (preferably a one piece suit) must be worn. If two piece it must be securely fastened at the waist with a zipper. Taped leathers are not allowed. When in racing position on the motorcycle, the rider must not have any skin exposed. Certain nylon suits are approved but are not recommeneded."

I ended up with a two-piece because I had purchased the suit for a trackday. It's high-quality, and I use an even higher-quality back-protector and chest-protector (rhino). Had I bought a suit with the intention of racing I would have gone with a one-piece instead. Zippers don't evaporate, they fail because they are abused and not maintained. If you are constantly unzipping and zipping the closure without using a lubricant you are definately asking for failure. I just keep mine as a one-piece and never undo the zipper.

No, they evaporate! sliding along at 130 mph will actually melt zippers into oblivion if you happen to slide on that part of the suit.

It's a small chance, but one I'm not adding to the list of other bizarre crash scenarios

In high speed crashes, you often slide on your back for a long way...
