Sooo. In the end I've gotten one good dry practice in so far this season.
I was ready for a wet race for gtu saturday and the track dried for the start. I didn't roll. But the rain came on lap 2 and it was red flagged. So i went out for the restart. It got red flagged again and when they regridded us they sent me to the pits because i hadn't made the first start. Aw well.
The dash was dark and rainy and i took 9th.
Sunday was looking dry but it drizzled for the start of f40. They stopped it after the sighting lap 3 times to wait it out. By the time we started i had low confidence in the track and tires. But i took 3rd as i think everyone was sketched out. Track was ok, but confidence on the paint was 0.

Pirelli Intermediate tires. Mount those on your rain wheels rather than full rain tires. You run into conditions suited for intermediate tires way more than a full rain. You almost never see full continuous rain; mostly its a case of just rained and the track is drying, or it's drizzling a bit and people are swapping their wheels 3 times in 10 minutes. Pirelli Intermediate tires.
Last weekend was my first time ever on rain tires. Of course I didn't have a chance to practice on them other than the warmup lap. I shadowed other guys in my first race and had a ton of fun. It was block passing central. Was crazy that on the first lap 2 guys went down in 2. Then In the Amateur Dash 2 bit me good and hard. I wasn't running fast but starting to get in my groove. I wasn't hard on the gas or leaned over but even mild throttle touching that yellow line left me sliding really fast to the air wall.
Pete, good tip and absolutely burning that one into my mind for next time. I will say that those races were the most fun I've had up there in a year!
